I have searched and read but am still confused as to the difference(s) between Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Extended Life or whatever it is called. The only difference I can see for sure is that the Extended Life has more of the SuperSyn additive package. Are there other differences, and would there be any advantage to using Extended Life on a car with 16,000 miles on it? Thanks!

caveatipse,

You are correct in your assumption regarding Mobil 1 "Extended".
It's just like now Castrol has their new oil called "Edge". It's nothing more than the same oil as Synthc with more anti-friction additives.

The advantages to using such and oil would be if you want to extend your OCI's OR if your maintenance schedule is once per year like some cars are now a days.

Here's what I was thinking...

Many times, Mobil 1 goes on sale, with a decent filter, at Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts, etc. In the past, any of the Mobil 1 products apply to the sale.

If this is the case, Wouldn't it be better to get the Extended Performance instead of the regular Mobil 1? Even if you don't plan to go the extra OCI.. Why Not get the Mobil 1 product with the extra add pack for the same price??

Or is this reasoning flawed in some way?

Seems logical to me. The only thing I could imagine is more additive, less oil? But I guess the amount of the additives is negligible.

How long do you think you might run it?
I would think you would never know the difference unless you are going to run the oil out for a long time. That is where the Extended oil will shine.

I have done a lot of 1 year oil changes on family vehicles as well as my own....

Works well for me.
