Walmart has the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 for $27 per 5-quart jug while the Mobil 1 5W30 is only sold in expensive quart bottles for $9.87 ea. Both oils are virtually the same at cSt @ 100 degrees C. with the usual slight bump in low temperature performance expected with the 0W oil rating of the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 . I would expect more VII's to be included in the 0W30 ESP but was wondering if any of the oil approvals for Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 included DI engines where perhaps added VII's may not be the best for intake valve deposits ? Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 would be better in that regards but Walmart is a no-go price wise while Auto Zone sells Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 in 5-quart jugs for $37 ea. which is a $10 increase over the available Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 at Walmart . While the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 should be fine in a mass port injected engine (i.e. gas washing over valves) would you run the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 in a DI engine - or consider paying more for the Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 with reduced VII's ?
I currently use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 in my vehicles - but both the wife and I are spirited , heavy foot drivers , so having a HTHS cushion of 3.5 minimum would be nice with the Mobil 1 Euro ESP oils versus the suspected HTHS of around 2.9 for the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 .
