My guess is Mobil saw no market for a non SM/GF-4 rated 5w20 oil. A SM/GF-4 rating limits phosphorus to 0.08 percent.

I would suggest asking them over at Exxon-Mobil.

I have wondered the same thing about the EP.
For the transmission fluid, are you refering to Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep ATF +4? If so, then no, only DC fluid from the dealer is ATF+4 at this time, but it is supposed to be available aftermarket anytime.

Actually blupupher Mobil 1's transmission fluid now meets ATF +4. Just make sure you check the back of the bottle to verify as there is still old stock on the shelves!

The ATF+4 question has come up before. The latest Mobil 1 ATF says appropriate for use on cars that call for ATF+4 (or something close to that). It does not say that it meets ATF+4 spec. When asked if they intend to produce a product that meets ATF+4 spec, they said no, they already have a product for that market.

About Mopbil 1 EP in 5W20, I suspect that there is not yet enough of a market for it. As these new cars age a bit, I suspect that we will see Mobil move into it.

DC contracted with PetroCanada to be the exclusive supplier of ATF+4 and no one else was given the formula. I face a similar problem with my new Toyota, a proprietary transmission fluid.

Mobil says that you should use their 5W30 EP if you want EP and have 5W20 specced. They say that 5W20 is being specced purely for fuel economy reasons, and running M1 5W30 EP won't hurt your 5W20-specced car.
That was on the web site last time I checked.

Big Jim, several ATF makers say they are compatable with ATF+4, but none meet the spec as of yet.
Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai also have ATF fluid that is make specific and is only available at the dealerships.

DaimlerChrysler has released the spec to other lube makers. There will be approved ATF+4 as well as non-approved but "recommended" ATF+4 on the shelves.
