I doubt if I'll ever see Valvoline ATF+4 at my Wal-Mart. They don't stock any Valvoline ATFs now as it is. The only name brand ATF they stock is Castrol. Everything else is SuperTech.

There is a chance we might see SuperTech ATF+4 since they currently stock SuperTech ATF+3. And the nice thing is, because of Chrysler's licensing requirements the fluid in the SuperTech bottle would be the exact same fluid as in the Valvoline bottle.

I'm rapidly approaching an early scheduled ATF flush and filter change in the Saturn and am in the process of considering several fluids.

I'm doing the ATF change early this time (20K) as I'm going to replace the OEM spin-on filter that was overlooked at the last ATF service. Thus, the filter has been on for the last 55K/5yrs.

I have a leak coming from the transmission, and the leak appears to be from the top cover gasket area. I'm going to replace the filter first to see if it corrects the problem.

In relation to this topic, I had originally considered the Mobil 1 ATF for $5.99/qt, but I can purchase Supertech Dexron-IIIH/Mercon for a $5.88/gal. Just can't justify the price difference for normal driving.

My $0.02

I ventured into a local Wal-Mart for the second time in my life last night and was pleasantly surprised (first time was at a location on Long Island and I vowed to never return). Local store seem very well managed and all merchandise up to date. Latest revision of Mobil 1 with Mercon V rating are abundant here.

How do SuperTech ATF rate against brands as Castrol or Valvoline?

I don't really know. But with plenty of other reasonably priced options out there I doubt if I'll ever try SuperTech unless SuperTech ATF+4 comes out.

I look at SuperTech fluid the same way I do Valvoline: The only Valvoline fluid I would use is ATF+4 for my Chrysler and that's because I know Valvoline didn't have anything to do with the formulation; they have to follow Chrysler's "recipe." For other type fluids they can come up with their own brew, and from my experience in my Olds their Dexron III is completely shot in 30,000 miles.
