I think on another thread we determined that Walmart jumped the gun a bit on this, they may simply not have had time to get the information properly prepared and disseminated yet. IIRC the release date was supposed to be mid March.

While I agree that it would be nice to have some more definitive information beyond the Good/Better/Best marketing, I can’t say I am particularly surprised you didn’t get it.

That's ok. I won't have trouble sleeping tonight.

No, it means that they know people will make a decision on something based other than performance. Something irrelevant.

Maybe. Does this include those that would make a purchase decision based on the base stock rather than the demonstrated performance?

I couldn't get much out of her as she seemed uninterested in discussing much about it.

Poor customer service from their part. A shame!

Manufactures never disclose what's in their oil and, as a result, people never know. This is typical and there is no surprise here.

If Mobil 1 says the new Annual Protection (AP) is a longer-lasting synthetic, it is a longer-lasting synthetic, and that's the main takeaway. This oil will especially benefit those who want extended OCIs for the grades available (0W-20, 5W-20, and 5W-30).

BUT,enthusiasts who build high end hot rods or who drive high end sports cars would be more inclined to spend $50 on a pao or ester oil, rather than a "mystery" oil or grp III oil when they can spend under $20 for a good grp III oil (think Redline and Amsoil customers). I know Mobil isn't "targeting" that demographic, but they have it at that price point.

XOM makes 5 groups but GIII is only one they are not selling ... sounds like they are a bit lean ...
Don't think they would launch a 20k flagship all GIII ... a company known to use 3 base stocks in M1 ...

There is no way this oil is twice as good as M1EP
Yet it is twice the price.
I can't see it selling much.
A lot of folks think price =quality and that is not the case.

If I was driving that "high end sports car" and it required an oil with a certain specification, I'd be very sure the oil I purchased actually carries that specification. I might have a hard time finding such an oil among the ones you list.

Which is another misguided focus so many times. For many specifications the grade is irrelevant as long as it carries the spec.
