Mobil 1 Advanced Clean game on at WalMart.

Mobil 1 is still my preferred synthetic oil brand overall, especially off the shelf, but there is no doubt they kind of pulled back over the years. No testing, proof of performance etc. It's as if they've given up marketing the oil entirely other than the name/racing sponsors etc. Maybe they felt it was pointless. Who knows.....Mobil 1 Advanced Clean will likely flop like AP did. They've certainly kind of made a mess of their lineup.

I agree, the lineup is a mess. Outside their euro oils my only interest is truck and suv which hardly anyone knows how good it actually is.

I thought AP was killed so it could be upgraded to EP.

It outperformed EP in oxidation resistance and thermal breakdown in the Mobil 1 shootout vid. Also held it’s own in the boutique shootout.
Is it still the case after they changed formulation? The 5w-30 now has 9.75 cSt

What they ended up doing was just changing the label on Mobil 1 Extended Performance from 15k to 20k. Slick move. Mobil 1 Annual Protection had more PAO but the price was too high for bargain Walmart shoppers who want the best but don't ever want to pay for it.

Valvoline kind of started the niche oil market with High Mileage. Prior to that there weren't really any niche type oils other than Euro or Boutique. Mobil was kind of forced into following the trends.

First there was Valvoline Restore and Protect and now the empire strikes back. Personally I wonder how many of us actually have the problem that these oils claim to solve. My guess is not many.
LOTS! Especially those of us with GDI engines, and probably those with turbos as well. On the other hand, my old 1996 Ford Ranger that doesn't burn a drop of oil and still looks relatively light and clean when changed? That probably doesn't need it.

Not that it matters per se, but Valvoline is more concise in their offerings

Advanced FS
FS - Extended Protection
Euro
Hybrid
Valvoline Restore and Protect
MaxLife High Mileage
MaxLife EP-HM
VR1

🤷‍♂️

Website has 12 offerings - and you guys assume Mobil has a problem ? Check back in two months …

Well I was only counting “full synthetic” pcmo for each brand, no conventional or blends, no hdeo, etc. All in good fun.
