I'm going to change the front diff lube in my 2500HD to synthetic. The manual wants 80w90,but I can't find any synthetic 80w90. Will 75w90 hurt anything?

I have 75W-90 synthetic in the front diff on my 2004 GMC and my 1992 Chevy 4x4. Used it for many years dating back into the 1980's.
What year is the HD? GM had some issues with the RTV sealants in some year trucks and any synthetic which can cause a chemical reation with the RTV. I have the TSB in my notes somwhere and will look for it.

My HD is a 2001. The only thing the dealer warned me about, was to change the vent cap to a new synthetic compatable cap. I don't get how the vent cap can be affected by synthtic oil. It seems like he is looking to sell me a $18 cap.

I have a 2003 Dodge 2500, and it evidently has the same American axles (?) as GM. Mine has a 9.25 up front and a 11.5 in the rear. I use Mobil 1 75W-90 up front and 75W-140 in the rear (actually 3 qts 0f the more expensive 75W-140 and topped off with 75W-90). The OEM fluid (a Texaco fluid from what I understand) looked like black snot at 15k miles, while the Mobil 1 looked like darker olive oil at the next 15k mile change. On one of the Dodge diesel forums some have complained about increased noise when trying out Amsoil and no problems with Mobil 1. I like it as readily available, kind of affordable, and seems to be good stuff.
If they are saying that, I think it is just BS. I can't see how a lube can affect noise, they likely had noise to start with and never paid any attention to it but since the changed the lube they have that on their radar screen all the time.
I have used nothing but Amsoil since 1977 and noise it not a problem. Amsoil synthetic gears lubes have been around since the late 1974, I don't recall when Mobil synthetic lubes came out but it was long after Amsoil.
Its a fact of life, some people are going to complain about every darn thing, nothing will please them. I worked with someone for nearly 20 yrs and that guy found fault with everything, and I mean everything.

Is the M1 OK to use in limited-slip differentials?
From what I've found,M1 is fine for a LSD. On Mobils site,it states that the 75w-90 has a friction additive in the fluid.
