My car, a 2005 1.6 DOHC, specs 5W-20 or 5w30, "SL or later". I've been changing with dino from the day I got it new (at 100 miles, 500 miles, 1500 miles and most recently Havoline at 3000miles). When I hit 5000 on the clock it gets syn for a 5K oci til the wheels fall off.

So I'm at Fram-Land, I mean, Walmart last night. Upon what do my eyes feast but 5 QT jugs of Mobil 1 5w30 SL for $20.87 with $2 more off at the register. So for less than eighty bucks, I bought my first six 3-1/2Qt synthetic oil changes (I already have LOTS of aftermarket oversize and OEM filters).

I'm ok with the SL spec, since the dealer is, now what's different about SM, vs. SL? Just the ad-packs, right? And do/should I sweeten the SL with anything, or just run it as is? VOAs here name the oils and additives and viscosities, but not whether a given oil is SL or SM. I'm doing about 3-4000 miles a month at the current pace with this car.

Thanks Yall!

I actually prefer the SL over the SM, if you can find it still. Seems like the newer stuff is getting away from moly and going with other antiwear additives.

Too bad you don't live closer to me....I got 3 cases of this stuff that I got with my PepBoys coupons, that I would sell cheap just to get rid of.
