I didn't get TBN since I figured it'd be fine with only 3762 miles on the oil. Mainly I got this to do a check on where my engine is at this point. It looks like the engine is broken in nicely and likes this oil.

Looks good. How old is this particular Mobil 1 you are using? The boron levels are higher than normal. fyi boron is an anti-wear additive.

Flash point is great. Pb is low, but proably high by BITOG standards although I think these engines spit out a bit more lead??? I would at least double the interval.

Other's more familiar with this engine can hopefully chime in...

The oil isn't all that old. It went in the engine last April, so I must've bought it early this year from Costco. Who knows how long it sat on their shelf... Since it's an anti-wear additive, I'm not worried about it, but the high level is interesting.

I figure a lead level of 7ppm isn't bad at all. Blackstone says the universal average is 6. That's in the noise to me.

My current oil (same M1 5W30) is going to stay in at least 5000 miles.

You're absolutely right that 7ppm of lead is not much overall, BUT for a 3.7k mile run on a syn, it seems awfully high - lots of people w/OCI's of less than 5k miles get 0 lead.

It is something to keep an eye on, as there has seemed to be a 'trend' of VQ engines spitting out a lot of lead, and a thicker oil may be required here. I don't know if you're out of warranty, but I'd see if the manual allows the use of a 40-weight oil, and if you like M1, I'd use M1 TDT 5W-40.

Leaad is the bearings, the VQ seems to prefer a tad more viscocity or a lower wt with better film strength. One of the better M1 UOAs on this engine I think. 0w40 may do better and wont drop mpg or power.

I don't know if y'all can see these without registering, but here they are anyway:

Someone nice has collected a bunch of UOAs for this car with lots of different oils. The differences in results between M1 5W30 and 0W40 are really small. It's fairly obvious which oils I don't want to use, but there are many that are very close.

Seen em, studied em! See what Wil says. I think the M1 5w30 may be working well for you, but in the interest of keeping my VQ I will stick to 40wt.

How about GC (Syntec 0w-30)??
