Did your father use the Honda oil filter while using this oil or the Mobil 1 EP 15,000 mile oil filter?

He has ONLY used Mobil 1 Filters for the life of the vehicle. So Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil and Oil Filters from new.

He also has recently started cutting open his oil filters, and the one is this particular car seemed fine (no damage to filtering media, etc)

Red herring re filters. Just run the oil 6 months instead of a year. That's what I do.

This would be a great time to switch to the SN stuff and see if it handles the fuel from short trips any better.

It's not the oil, or the one year change interval, or the way he drives.

You can see my UOA, the oil went over 3 years before it was changed on Mobil 1 and I had a great report.

Sometimes you just have a bad engine. Something went wrong on the assembly line. I'd sell it. Buy another car. The chances of getting two lemons in a row are huge.

Sorry to say, but these Honda V6 engines have issues and I would stay away from them... Honda knows about piston ring and knocking issues/cylinder wear. These engines need to have early 3-4K mile OCI's with a really good cleaning motor oil. PP, Redline, etc... I know all this because I used to own Acura MDX's and will not buy them ever again. Got to know a few Acura mechanics and they told me Honda knows that they have serious V6 engine issues. Do some internet searching and you will find more info...
