What kind of info can you guys give me for Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 oil? I got me a new cash for clunkers Hyundai accent hatch. Drop the factory fill at 1100, then added Pennzoil Platinum 5w20. I just changed that at 3700 to the Mobil 1 5w20 Extended Performance. Is it a great oil? Or not that much better than pp, which I have a soft spot for? Sump capacity is 3.48 with filter. I use the Hyundai tank of a filter. Very impressed with this little car's value! Whats a reasonable change wth this set up? Thanks guys in advance!

PS: PP is just as good as Mobil 1 Extended Performance (and any other oil) in this app and the OCI you NEED to be following...
 
I agree for warranty reasons stick with what the manual says. I would use motorcraft 5w20 semisyn if the OCIs are 5000 miles or under.
 
I have been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance oils, all wts, since they came out with it several years ago. As are all of the Mobil 1 oils it is an outstanding lubericant. As Bill said go by your warranty, but the EP oils will serve you well.
 
I did my only used oil analysis on this particular oil in the CR-V and after 10k, Blackstone said push it to 12k. This car definitely falls into the "severe service" category.

My one used oil analysis I did with this oil showed a lot of life left as well at 10,000 miles.
 
I would say EP is overkill during the warranty period since you need to follow the OCI in the owner's manual. I would only use EP if I were going to go 10K OCI or more.

Also to the OP.

BE CAREFUL as I beleive that EP is NOT API SM approved and your car REQUIRES an API SM rated oil.

Hyundai is known to be VERY picky on their warranty and proof *if* you need service.

Running a SL oil could cause you issues later. (and 10 years 100,000 is a long time for most people)

Double check to make sure what EXACTLY what does the manual say!

Again to the OP, check the bottle carefully. Make sure its APPROVED not RECOMMENDED (one has the actual rating by API and the other is in house testing).
