Since you live in Texas, you should be able to find Royal Purple easily at retail shops ...I'd run the RP 10w-30, two times in a row and test the second batch. I think you'll see significantly less iron wear, particularly in this LS1 motor.

The GC, 0w-30 would be the other OTS synthetic I'd try in here; given Patmans results.

Well I'd like to see a mix of 10W-30 with 15W-50. Not saying it would do better than than the ones you suggested though. What the heck any comparison is good.

Copper is extremely low in this engine, and it looks like the oil didn't shear one bit. I say this a good oil for this engine.

I would have to say so too since no other information was posted.

It does look like a car that does not get driven daily due to the low overall miles and might have have a bit of time on the oil along with a KN Filter making that SI and FE elevated but not alarming.... Just not enough info .

Did you mean to say iron? Lead is pretty good, it's the iron which could use some improvement.

I still believe the three best oils for the LS1 are (in alphabetical order):

Amsoil 5w30
GC 0w30
Redline 5w30

LS1White,
Good report! You might want to check out the "GM knock" thread. Lot of good info there with two other LS1 reports, including mine.

I half arsed read the GM knock thread but when i have more time later on i will read through it completely.

Patman on another board suggested that i give Amsoil 5w/30, Redline 5w/30, or German made Castrol Syntec 0w/30 a try next oil change.
Think i'm gonna go with either Amsoil or Redline next time. I refilled with the same oil i used duing the last interval and will do another oil analysis on that too.

My car is daily driven just not as much as one would think a daily driven car would be.

Also for the UOA in the 1st post. I have a K&N Filter. I also added around 1qt of oil during the interval.

This is a great report on the LS1. I think Mobil 1 will work well in this engine. The Halvoline I used in mine was a 20w and the wear numbers were good so I don't really buy the Mobil 1 is too thin idea for this engine. I use M1 10w30 year round in Colorado.

Well, if the snow ever clears from the road long enough, I can get the Vette out for it's annual change. I am running Amsoil 5W-30 and will post results whenever I get them. Oil will have about 5,500-6,000 miles on it when I change it which will be fairly consistant with my last change.

I go back and forth with this theory. It's reports like this that make me think Mobil 1 is a great choice for LS1's. We've seen quite of few really good Mobil 1 reports now in LS1's that would make me feel comfortable using it. Again, IMO, deposits and sludge resistance are key to a synlube, not so much 5pmm of Pb vs 2pmm of Pb. Kind of insignificant if you ask me.

Vettenuts, how do you drive your car, hard/easy etc.? This plays a huge factor with these reports.

It is a pretty good report but the oil only has 3,821 miles on it which is really not that much. What would it be at double the mileage? A good conventional oil would probably have given similiar results at this mileage.

Doesn't it seem excessive that with only 25k miles on the car and with less than 4k miles on the oil, it used a full quart during this interval? What is it about Mobil 1 that causes so much oil consumption?

To be honest with you i could have been wrong with the 1qt thing. I did add 1 qt but that was because of the "Low Oil" light came on. So i thought it meant that my oil was low. It appeared to be low when i checked it. I found out later that if you go pass 3000 miles on an oil it will make the light come on. Did i hear right?

The LS1 has a light tension ring set and and narrower width than most other engines .

It's not the oil although if I owned one I would use the 0/40 Mobil for other reasons .It's good stuff !

Are you sure it was the "Low Oil Light?"
It should have been more than a quart if so....maybe 2 or more.
I wonder if you saw the "Change Oil" light and you thought it was the "Low Oil" one?
