Yes, people do talk about about grocery store brands quite a bit. All you have to do is search the forums for discussions of Super Tech (Wal-Mart's grocery store brand of oil.)
As for M1 0w40, I also find its numbers to be impressive. I'll probably try it in a couple of applications where I now use Rotella T6 (especially the '66 440).
