I see an opportunity for you to compare the stuff of 6 years ago to the newer stuff of today (ie within the last 3 years according to the attached documents) and report back what has changed.
My observation is oil companies change their branding and advertising hype to sell the product more often than the actual formulations themselves. Recent postings of Castrol, Valvoline are “x” times better than attest to that.
SL & SM formulations aren't all that different and have been with us over that timeframe stated. I recall some SL formulations were so advanced that they call pass the SM tests.
The recommended grades for vehicles in Australia have not changed that much either eg Holden 10w30 from 1999 VT.
Anyway point taken, not to let this debate flare up again, I have said my point of view.
