Mobil 1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

Hello - I got a bunch of free Mobil 1 0w40 from a buddy at a benz dealership. Would this oil a good one at about 5k OCI in a 00 Grand Cherokee 4.7?

Absolutely not. Ship your free oil to me so I can use it in my 2004 Jeep Wrangler.

Yes, it would be a great oil to use in your Jeep.

Since you are out of any kind of warranty, I'd go at LEAST 10k miles on Mobil 1 0W-40 - a complete waste to change it before then. I know it was free, but why not ride the 'free train' as long as you can?

I hear you I'm lazy so going 10k shouldn't be a problem I had been using Mobil 1 High Mileage Synthetic 10w30 in the Jeep would you say 0w40 is on par with that one?

manual states either 5w30 or 10w30. I haven't deviated from that yet in 90k miles. I installed the 0w40 without really thinking much about it and did notice that the engine temps are lower - at least on the gauge in the dash however accurate that is.

I would say the 0W-40 is above par compared to other Mobil 1 oils.

thanks for the advice this site is a great resource. My buddy at the benz dealership said he thought it would be a good one - given all the certs ACEA 3 and all that but that I should verify that. Jeep dealer mechanics pretty much stick to a 5w30 conventional and nothing else line.

It sure will! That is a great oil and the 4.7V8 is a great engine design and will like this oil! I owned a Dakota with the 4.7 V* and it loved Mobil 1 oils includeing the old Tri-Syn formulations! I ran Mobil 1 5W30 and 10W30 dureing the winter months and Mobil 1 15W50 dureing the warm months. THe Dodge Dealership I bought it from recomended Mobil 1 15W50 for the warm months if you where going to be towing a lot of off roading or raceing. I did all three with my Dakota. They always had the Mobil 1 15W50 on hand at the dealership for the Viper customers. So while I never ran the Mobil 1 0W40 in my Dodge I know it will do well. I have ran the Mobil 1 OW40 in my 2003 Camry,1997 Buick LeSaber,1995.5 Tacoma,2001 Tundra 4.7V8, and my Sear's Craftsman rideing lawn and garden tractor and all of them have loved this stuff!

thanks for the feedback John it seems to really like the stuff so far. I really like the idea of having an all season oil that flows 0w freely at startup but ranges all the way up to the 40 for good hi temp control.

I've been real impressed with the 4.7 so far. Owned it almost 4yrs. 90k trouble free miles, good power, decent gas mileage, and an easy motor to do the basic DIY stuff - plugs, fluids, belts, etc.

Another oil I have looked at for my Frontier


Decent gas mileage? Really? I've thought I heard that the Dodge 4.7's were oinkers at the pump. Of course my 2001 Frontier is also an oinker for it's size.

Mobil 1 0w40 is an awesome oil,will serve you well,it's a solid 40w
when warm so it's more then enough for summer heat,dunno tho
if i would run it in the winter(thick 20w)i'd probably go thinner
there,run this oil out too don't dump it at no 5-6k miles.

i too just scored two cases for $3.00 a qt.,will make a great addition to
my Mobil 1 stash.

not stellar mileage but after the K&N and magnaflow along with a throttle body spacer it picked up a couple mpg...averages about 18 a gallon less than 1/2 driving is highway.

I tried a 40 weight once in my 4.7 and it made the engine feel sluggish and lazy. Too heavy an oil. Stick with a 5w30 or a 10w30.Regards

^^^This is what I was thinking....

I even noticed a difference going from SSO to GC back to SSO. GC is a heavy 30 weight and I felt it in my 4.7.

However, as long as you like it, its all good...
