Mobil 1 0w30 question

I had though about that ebaker, but they only had 7 0w30 and the 1 15w-50, and my car uses 4 qts/change, seemed to work out just right.
If they had more 15w-50 I may have bought more for a 50/50 split of 0w-20 and 15w-50. I will be hitting another AZ and see what they have.

You need to know that I grew up using 10w30 and even straight 30 weight, so all this "thinner" stuff and 0w-** oil is still new to me, but I know it works fine. Just trying to reassure myself I guess.

OK, got a good deal on Mobil 1, but they only had 0w30 and 0w-20 left. I bought 7 qts of 0w30 and the last 15w-50. I seem to remember reading that Mobil 1 0w30 was on the thin side, but not really a problem. I am currently using GC and the car seems to like it, UOA will be done on the next change along with some more GC. The change after that I was thinking 3 1/2 qts of 0w30 and 1/2 qt of the 15w-50. This would give me 2 oil changes with this oil, and should thicken up the 0w30 a bit.

This is on a 2004 Hyundai Elantra with the 2.0 4 cylinder. 7500 mile OCI (for warrenty reasons), about 5 months, mostly highway driving in Houston Tx. Very rarely does it get below freezing, but 3-4 months of 90+ days (though it is mostly driven in the am when temps are in the mid 70's). It uses no oil (only 12,000 miles on the car). The recomended oil is 10w30 or 5w30 in extreme cold. I have no issues with the 0w rating, already have that with the GC, just wondering on how well the 30 weight holds up.

Found THIS LINK and THIS ONE to a voa, but I don't really undersand all this stuff yet. Also the other posts from the search didn't really answer my question, although it seems that mixing the 15w-50 with the 30 weights seems to be a common deal.

You can run 0w30 all year round without mixing. However, it is fine to mix if you want. You can run 0w-20 in Death Valley California if you wanted to and would still be fine if you car calls for a 20wt oil. I would just go with Mobil 1 0w30 year round. Let your oil anlaysis tell you what viscosity is best for your car though for the best answer.

Why not mix the 15w50 with 2-4 quarts of the 0w20.
