(All oils in this post are Mobil 1)
I went to Autozone and Schuck's and ended up with 4 quarts of M1 0W-40 SM, 5 quarts of 15W-50 SL, and 28 quarts of 0W-20 SL, for $1.50 or $2 per quart. My car takes 4.5 quarts of oil on each change, so I'm thinking of mixing the 15W-50 and 0W-20 like this:
2 qts 15W-50 and 2.5 qts 0W-20 to give me oil with vis at 40°C of 69.5 cst and vis at 100°C of 11.7 cst, and a viscosity index of 164.
When I run out of SL 15W-50, I was planning on using M1 EP 15W-50. I'd use the 0W-40 and some 10W-30 I've got as top up oil.
What do you guys think?
I got these figures by using the ever so handy mixing calculator.
