(I change oil and top up cars in the same spot, so it wasn't the grade I was on showing a difference on the dipstick) At this point I was thinking WTH?, this is a brand new car and the last oil in there did not burn a drop (TGMO 0w20 run for 7K miles). I dumped the oil prematurely and got some TGMO 0w20 to put back in there (leaving in the Mobil 1 Filter), and it since hasn't burned a drop in 5000 miles. Can we conclude that this oil is not very good or just not good for my particular engine? Sure I was using 0w30 in a 0w20 engine, but I don't know if that should make a big enough difference.
Thoughts?
Your car just didn't like the oil. Stick with the oil doesn't burn off.
