Ok so why offer all three grades of Mobil 1 if the 0w30 grade will do it all. I recently purchased the 10w30 grade for my 2012 Nissan Pathfinder since all other grades were sold out and it's summer so why not. It seems when I read the specifications on the Mobil 1 web site there seems there is little difference between them.

Because the general public is scared to use a grade that's not listed in the owner's manual.

0W30 base oil viscosity 5.27cst, 7.0% Viscosity Modifiers
5W30 base oil viscosity 6.96cst, 2.8% Viscosity Modifiers
(nothing for 10W30, but it's possible to make a VI free 10W30)
So the 0W will have greater temporary and permanent shear seensitivity, a higher volatility, and due to polymer content, MAY be more prone to varnish/sludge.

Well, it kind of is because a 5w30 can be made almost as shear stable, and most cars don't live long enough to tell the difference anyway.

Most good 10w30 synthetics do not need any VII to to the naturally high viscosity index of the base oil. Mobils Visom should be VII free in the 10w30 flavor.
