Mobil 1 0w20

Noticing plenty stock of Mobil 1 0w20 on my Wallworld shelves lately, even an aisle facing. I;m finishing up my stockpile (prob 8 more 5qt jugs) of MC 5-20 with 5k OCI. Planning WAY ahead was thinking of Mobil 1 5w20 and 6 or 7k OCI.

Seeing Mobil 1 0w20 got me wondering and I have no knowledge basis so.......What will Mobil 1 0w20 do for me that Mobil 1 5w20 wont do? I drive in the usual North East tepms but do travel to northern New Hampshire and Northern Maine in dead winter, and Adirondaks in NY and can see -20F for a spell depending on the year.

Is it merely less start up wear at most temps?? or am I missing the boat here?

It probably won't make much of a difference then again you do live up north where it can get very cold. Those oils are basically interchangeable. I really like the Mobil 1 0w20, it is a great oil and I recommend it. Just give it a try.

I switch between MC 5w-20 and Mobil 1 0w-20 in my Focus. I don't notice much of a difference in noise on the -15 days between the two.

I think at extreme temps the Mobil 1 is a bit thinner.

However, isn't Mobil 1 a bit thicker at operating temps than most 20 grade oils?

I agree - they are interchangeable. You can also use the 0W-20 in the winter and 5W-20 in the summer.

No need to switch between the seasons. I use 0-20 year round and our summers here are scorchers. Last two years we have had many days 100-109F and the 0-20 held up very well.

Tig is pretty much the authority here on this particular oil. Heck I am a non-Mobil fan however with his influence I tried the AFE out in my hemi this winter. Surprisingly enough my engine didn't dissolve.
OP. you can use either or in the temps you have described however if you are stockpiling I would go with the AFE. It's a well formulated oil with a decent viscosity index.
And tig has been using this stuff at 10000 mile intervals and his engines are spotless,so when he comments its from experience so take him at his word.

Absolutely. And there's no reason to switch between a 0w-20 and a 5w-20 by the seasons. That's seriously over analysing the issue. XOM warrants the 0w-20 for 5w-20 applications. If you want conventional, use 5w-20 year round. If you want synthetic, the Mobil 1 0w-20 will be just dandy all year.

The advantage to multigrades like 5w-xx and 0w-xx is being able to eliminate changing viscosity by season. Thinking that a 5w-20 should be used in summer and a 0w-20 is a winter only fill (particularly in the bulk of North American climates) is about as nutty as thinking straight 50 is a summer fill and 20w-50 is the winter variant.
