MMO in Mower Gas

Just thought I'd pass this on for comments. I bought a Snapper self-propelled mower earlier this summer and mow about an acre with it. After break-in, changed the oil to Rotella 30 wreight and have been mowing on this all summer. After break-in, I could repeatedly mow about 7/8 of the acre and run out of gas. I'd add and finish the job.

I ran out of mower gas in my two 3-gallon cans and went and refilled with the same gas...Shell 89 octane but this time I added about an ounce of MMO to each two gallons of gas (along with Stabil that had been in before). When I mowed today, hopefully for the last time, I did the entire acre and a good section of the neighbors street to sidewalk area and still had enough gas in the mower so I could see about 1/2" left in the tank.

I was, needless to say, impressed with this. Any one else see this kind of improvement with MMO in mower gas?

Yes, I add about the same dose to my push mower gas and I have a little more left over in the tank with MMO added than I did with gas only.

I add MMO to the oil in my mower too. Seems to run a bit better and quieter.

MMO is a good product. I use it in the gas for my truck too, at the 4 oz. to 10 gallons dose. I get a little better MPG with it than without.

I haven't tried MMO - but I do know that this time of year my grass isn't nearly as thick/plush as it is during the spring/summer. When I'm mowing thinner grass, I burn less gas as the mower isn't bogging down at all, it's just crusing.

Same reason I burn less gas when my blade isn't dull, and my air filter isn't full of crud.

That said, I HOPE it turns out you are right and MMO helps usage a bit, as my yard is right on the borderline of being a one tank job and would love to have a little advantage to ensure that it always is.

How long had the cans of gas been sitting before use? Maybe break-in combined with stale fuel?

I guess the only way to know is a few back-to-back mowings next year with and without MMO.

Every time I have to refill my 5 gallon OPE cans, I dose them with 2 oz. of Stabil and 2 oz. of MMO. Seems to keep everything clean and fresh. No complaints from any of my OPE engines as yet!

Actually my grass was quite thick today as I have not mowed for two weeks. And my fuel was not really stale as I use it for a lot of other things so it only ever sits around for about a month. The gas in my truck tank gets older than that a lot of times.

I'll have to keep an eye on this next year. I have not sharpened the blade since I bought the mower and it is getting to the point where I'll be doing that when I put it away for the winter.

Maybe the engine is just finally broken in? I never noticed a drop in fuel consumption, but it has been a long time since I didn't have MMO in my 5 gallon gas cans. It seems to keep the carburetors clean and the gas from going stale.

Used to run MMO in Dad's OPE (mowers, tractor, wood splitter, snow blowers, etc ...). I can't say I noticed any improvement in fuel economy ... but then again, I never measured it.

I use the stuff (and/or Lucas UCL) in new OPE engines as they break in. I believe that it seats the rings slower, more gradually ... but they form a better seal and gives the engine best-possible power while reducing engine oil consumption.

I did track MMO use in one of my cars ... tracked an improvement of about 5% over a few tankfuls, before and after treatment.

Both MMO and Sta-Bil have the same requirement for adding to fuel, 1oz-2.5 gal/gas or 4oz-10 gal/gas. I do both for my lawn equipment and my old Firebird V8 4bbl carb. They all seem to run best this way.

I suspect my OPE is more efficient with MMO but for as little as I use in a season efficiency doesn't matter. What I really like is that the continuous dose of MMO keeps the engine running and starting like new. I put my additives into the gas cans so everything gets it no matter who is doing the work.
