im standing behind you...
I own a 1999 Mazda Protege 1.8L with 130k miles on it. I just finished a double Auto-rx treatment with GTX 5w30. The car burns about 1 quart per 3k OCI, and has run on dino all it's life. I bought a small stash of GC because it was on sale for pretty cheap. People have said that the protege runs better on Mobil 1 5w30 as opposed to GC, probably because of GC is a bit thick.

Now the question is, should I try GC in the protege? What do you guys think of mixing GC with 5w30 GTX to thin it down, and still give me a pretty nice synthetic blend?

I would probably just run the GC but if you are considering mixing Dino GTX in with GC to thin it out it would make more sense to use 5w20. I think it would likely make a better oil than a semi synthetic blend. In general unless a Blend is on sale at great prices you can acheive a similar thing with a 3 to 1 ratio of good quality conventional to synthetic

I am currently running an Auto-RX rinse with a mix of GTX 5w20 and HDEO 15w40 in a Mazda MX-3 with the 1.8L K8 V6. While I am mainly doing this because i had a couple of quarts of each lying around, I did figure it might be a useful, highly detergent Group II or Group III with a viscosity somewhere in the 10w30 range.
