I just bought a Mityvac 7201 along with the brake bleeder attachment, which is soft plastic tube w/a ball valve on it. The directions say to plug the suction port on the 7201 that you would normally use to drain the unit, and use an adapter that comes w/ the bleeder. The adapter inserts in the hole on top that is normally occupied by the expandable drain plug. I checked and the tubing in the brake kit fits into the normally used suction port. Any idea why they would recommend using the adapter?

I have no idea why they recommend the use of adapter. I just connected the soft/flexible tube to the bleeder screw and the other end to the main tube and the main tube to the 7201, I started pumping the 7201 few pumps and then opened the bleeder screw to let the brake fluid flowed into the Mityvac container. When it finished, clear brake fluid coming out, I closed the bleeder screw first before detached the tube from the bleeder screw.

Right.
Why not just use a plain tube that goes in to the vacuum reservoir?
And like HTSS said, close the bleeder while there is still negative pressure.

Thanks, I understand how to bleed brakes, my quandary was why does the bleeding apparatus need to be hooked up the way the manufacturer recommended. It makes no sense, unless this kit fits other vac units.
