Anyone ever see one of these badboys?
Made a key to the house today at LOWE'S.. Well its 3AM so technically yesterday while searching for a Hammer (See Tool Time Post)

Pretty Nifty.. they had a make 2 keys get 1 free special
I just got the basic bronze key, but they have random designs in them too...

Stinks you can only do regular sized household style keys, I was trying to do the Craftsman Truck Box key of mine, as its pretty flimsy...
No Automotive keys either, which is fine, I have friends who are locksmiths.

Pretty sturdy key, for 2.29 for a basic key, it beats the cheapo silver Defiant brand key that came with the knobs.

Keys they used are stamped MEX in small letters on the top of the key, with "MinuteKEY" logo on both sides as well

Pretty good deal, Never seen the machine until today, must be new to my Local store...

Interesting. Although they occasionally have to order some odd ones, like they had to for my Suzuki Swift, my local mom-and-pop hardware store will still cut a key for $1, and guarantee it to work.

What is this mom and pop store you speak of? I haven't seen one of those in ages

The tin-foil hat in me says now somebody is going to built a nice database of credit card and associated house keys to go with it. I wonder what they can do with that information??

lol, the door to door ADT guy came to my house last year. I was nice to him but told him if he could convince me that I need an alarm system then I would buy it. I saw the gleam in his eye...a challenge. So he asked if I always felt safe, I said yes. He asked if I was concerned for my families safety, I said no. He said why not, I said because between me and my wife and the 6 guns in our bedroom you better have at least 10 thiefs for me to be scared. He said that guns are not the safest way to protect your family. I smiled and asked what is???? He said a system that automatically notifies police of any intrusion. I asked what do I do while the police are in transit? He started throwing out stats and I told him sorry bub, but those stats are for retards that do not know how to handle a gun. He then said that the homeowner is more apt to get hurt than the bad guy. I started to laugh really hard and told him if you truely believe any of that then try to break into my home any time you want, with that I told him enough of my day had passed and I needed to get back to work.

Sorry for highjacking the thread

I suspect they would have that also in the database too :-)

And they may still have US made blanks. At least for about the same money, Im giving a person a job, rather than pure profit from a machine.

I saw one of these at Lowe's, and I just happened to be there to get some duplicate keys... but at least at the time, it was more expensive than having new keys cut from the staffed "regular" machine, so I didn't brother with it.

Given the cost and the limited types of keys it can cut, I don't really see the point of this machine, unless they start putting them in places where you couldn't normally get a key made... such as at drug stores, Target, etc.
