Nothing major here, just having a small issue with a possible blown mini fuses in my Nissan .
So yesterday I was upgrading a few mini grill led lights in my 06 Nissan Xtrail.....I made a mess, saw smoke from the wires, knew I screwed up.

I heard a click or small pop noise, and I can tell I blew a mini fuses.

So I'm not asking for help with rewiring, I plan on removing what I installed, start fresh with better 12V mini amber led lights ( replace the fuse/unhook the battery, etc)......I have a fuse tester, and all the suspected fuses, under my hood and under my dash, seem to be good, they light up.
I pulled each individual mini fuses TWICE to inspect/eyeball to see if broken, and they all look in good condition.

I have no gauge cluster lights since my screwups, but this has happened before and I easily replace with a 10 or 15 amp minu fuse. I look it up, will say 10 amp mini in the slot marked #11 (for my vehicle) ''Meter''.....which in the past I replaced and restored my Gauge cluster light issue ( it's just the gauges unlit...turn signals indicator arrows lite up, auto transmission indicator light is fine, etc, stereo works, horn, etc)

I'm low on fuses and need to go buy some more 10 and 15 amp mini fuses, but I do have an assortment of other mini fuses, from low to high...I'm out of 10/15 A , of course. I Google yesterday '' Can I replace a 10/15 a mini fuses with something bigger , such as a 20Amp?''..... Nope nope, do do it, causes issues, bad for vehicle electrical system. BUT I can temporarily install a slightly lower amp fuse, said a 7.5A in place of a 10A...and I do have 4 new 7.5A minis on hand. No i'm not being a tight wad, I will go buy the correct fuses I need, soon. Actually read that my Gauge cluster lights out can also be a blown Rear parking g/brake light Fuse, which is the next thing to go check.

Any of you replace a slightly lower Amp mini fuse instead of the exact amp and how did that go for you?

Pluck the 10a from the audio system, put a 7.5 in that slot. Having your gauge lights go kablooey while driving at night could be bad.

There's also a chance the old mini-ATCs will fit in the micro-ATC slot, and work electrically, they just sit a little higher, if you have some of those around.

As a temporary work-around, you will not increase the risk of damaging any components by substituting a 7.5 amp fuse for a 10 amp fuse. Worse case scenario, you might draw enough amperage (e.g., 9 amps) to exceed and blow the 7.5 amp fuse, whereas a 10 amp might remain intact. In any event, using a lower fuse offers MORE protection/safeguard against damage since it will blow at a lower threshold, leaving an open circuit.

Ty, i fixed the gauge lights, it was a 10 amp mini that works for the Tailights ...pulled it out, obviously blown 10amp. ....now i still need a few more 10 amp mini fuses.

I pulled my Horn 10A and put in a 7.5Amp, works fine. Now i noticed my rear hatch wiper not working, so that will be the next 10amp fuse to replace.
i got Allllllll sorts of mini fuses, just ran out of the 10s.
tomorrow im buying a sack full of them !! 😂....still might be a tiny chance i have more storage places in the home to look thru, i can be a bit of a packrat for things that will come in handy One Day.
Not quite a Hoarder, omg i watch the hoarder tv show and i always remind myself to not be like that.

Blowing a fuse while playing with lights...been there.
Keep working...use the 7.5s......get the correct fuses whenever
