Mineral motor oil low detergent

I'm looking for an easy to find mineral motor oil with a low level of detergent (calcium) additives. I'm doing a first start on a rebuild. I will be adding ZDDP. My understanding is that low detergent levels allow the ZDDP to be more effective for initial break in. I don't know how to identify an oil with low level detergent additives., don't see calcium listed on the bottle. I know Joe Gibb break in oil is low in detergent but would prefer not to dump expensive oil after 20 minutes of run time. Anybody have some recommendations? Thanks RB

We have a number of break in oils sold in the UK. In the US Amsoil do one.

You use the oil for up to 1,000 miles not just for less than an hour, that would not let the oil get it's job done.

I would still run an inexpensive off the shelf oil with the addative added to it. It has worked for me in the past.

What kind of engine?

You can buy nd oil at napa if you still have your heart set on that

There are break-in oils available from several big manufacturers. Have you ruled those out?

You could the substitute a couple qts in the sump with some ND SAE30 SA/SB. IIRC, The AZ brand (orange bottle) didnt stink too bad as the coastal so it may have utilised a better paraffinic cut.

Buy a dedicated break-in oil if you're that concerned. Almost every specaialty or racing oil blender out there sells one.

Royal Purple makes such an oil for break in (Low detergent high ZDDP), and most speed shops have it. If you don't have a local speed shop, the websites that sell performance parts will have it. RP break in oil is not going to be cheap either.

That in mind, how cheap is a $50 oil change when compared to the stuff found in your new engine. How much $ is it going to cost to replace a flat lifter cam that wasn't broken in properly?
