That's the draw back with chemical fertilizer since the lawn adapts itself to feeding chemical fertilizers. What happens is the soil biological society which feeds AND PROTECTS the lawn is gone. Reason the lawn will no longer feed these fungi that aids the plant and in feeding and protecting against the bad stuff in the soil. Just like man has colds, flu and diseases. The feeding process with the plant's intake with chemical fertilizers will alter itself and no longer feed the natural structure that feeds the plants since the plant nutrient becomes directly from chemical fertilizers. NATURE IS GONE.
Chemical fertilizers will give instant results BUT also not all of it is used. They stay in the soil or get washed out because the natural soil biology no longer is the same. Staying in the soil is not good also which will leach out microbes that can not survive in a toxic state.
Organic on the other hand is nature's balance society. Like plumbers, carpenters, doctors and garbage collectors all in one they do their thing keeping things in order. When you use chemical fertilizers that society no longer is needed since the host plants will get it's nutrient directly from chemical fertilization. Eventually over fertilized soil becomes leach and waste land(worst case scenario).
Chemical fertilizer is fast and easy on lawns, but for me I'm all organic one big society with lawn, plants, vegetables and fruit trees.
