Everytime I run CCleaner, I get a pop up "Would you like CCleaner to close it? I have never used Microsoft Edge, don't recall installing it, yet every time I use CCleaner, which is often, I get the pop up and CCleaner has to force close it.

I have pinned and unpinned it, yet, as soon as I go to any site/forum, there it is again showing up as if its open or in use on CCleaner.

Is there anyway of getting rid of it? It is becoming annoying.

Thanks.

I'm using it at the moment.

I've had problems with my laptop slowing to a crawl, and reinstalled Windows three time...before working out that after 6-8 weeks Chrome does something and ends up utilising 100% disk, stopping everything.

(Tried removing and reinstalling Chrome, but it needs a system reset to get it to work).

Edge not my fave...but it's usable.

My wife has been getting it on her Laptop since we updated it last year to Windows 10. I had no idea what it was at the time so she just lived with it.
I have had a Windows 10 computer now for around 2 yrs and within the last few days, maybe 4-5, it has started to pop up when I use CCleaner.

I get, "Would you like CCleaner to close Edge", which doesn't work when I hit OK, then another CCleaner pops up asking if I would like to force it closed, which eventually works.

I don't understand how all of a sudden I am now receiving this?

I don't mind the attempts to spy more heavily. I have ways to control much of that.
What bugs me-more is the dictatorship Microsoft's Bill Gates has levied on those that did free upgrades from 8.1 to Windows 10. The ability to control or eliminate some of these popup pages like Windows Help, Cortana, Edge..... etc.... is gone. There's no way to turn those suddenly-appearing pages off, without damaging effects to the computer.

I do believe I'm done with Windows after this six year-old (original Windows 8) Dell desktop dies.

I thought I had it corrected? I removed/uninstalled it via CCleaner and found and removed an edge icon on my desktop that wasn't there before but whenever I use Super Anti Spyware then CCleaner, there it is again!
I went into a bunch of different sites/forums then directly to CCleaner and all was good but, like I mentioned, if I do a scan with SASW, there is again?

By the sounds of it, I guess I'll just have to live with it?

I don't like the new style invisible boundaries fad that has caught on at both Microsoft and Google, but otherwise Microsoft Edge seems to work well for the little I use it.

I thought I would get used to Windows 10 after a few months like I did Windows 8, but Windows 10 continues to be a nuisance.
I would go back to Windows 8.1 if it weren't for the hassle of setting up and tweaking applications all over again.

Sounds like you need to get rid of CC Cleaner as it doesnt work correctly on your Windows computer. I didnt know people bother with that stuff anymore, Windows 10 will keep everything tidy for you.

Edge is a fine, if not annoying browser, Chrome is no different, annoying. I trust Edge over Chrome for security.

Best options, I love Opera both on our computers (many, many of them) and our Android Phones. Opera has built in ad blocker you can turn on and you can also block autoplaying HTML videos which annoy the [censored] out of me on Edge and Chrome.

I also like the new Firefox. WHy on earth people use Chrome is beyond me, people turn over their bodies and everything they do to Google in the name of "free"

Windows 10 is a fine operating system, some people will always be stuck in the past.
Just because you use Windows 10 doesnt mean you need to complain about how Edge works or you cant remove Edge, So what?
You can simply use Opera or Firefox.

As far as Chrome? Garbage, you give your personal information to google to sell, in the name of free?
I wonder how many people know, that with the password to your gmail account, I can look on a map and see EVERY place you have EVER been too with your Android phone, including stores and (umm) hotels by EXACT time, date and year.

I am not a computer guy by any stretch so everything you mentioned is news to me. I ran CCleaner on my old system so I assumed my new windows 10 would also benefit from it?
I also use super anti spyware and Avast, which likely, according to you is also silly?

With CCleaner and SASW, I still receive a lot cookies and junk so I think those are at least doing something? Same with Avast, it finds and removes stuff as well plus it alerts me if I go into an unsafe site/link.

Irv, I haven't used Windows 10 yet, and am mostly a Linux guy. However, my recommendation would be not to worry about what CC (or anything else) says about MS Edge. If it's anything like previous versions of Windows, the browser is integral to the operating system, so there's not a lot you can do about it anyhow. Use an alternative browser (Firefox is my choice). What we cannot change in the OS, we have to let slide.

As for CC, I've always used it in Windows, but don't know what issues it may or may not have in Windows 10.

Unless, of course, you turn it off. Doubtful that Chrome (Google) is the only one who records history and location.

Its all snake oil, mostly, no need for add on programs. Windows 10 takes care if it, many of these programs slow down your system, more so if you have an older system, Super antisypware, Avast ect ... I dont see the point, you want privacy so you install programs that constantly send information to them about all your browsing ...
Windows 10 makes it almost impossible to go to a roque site and yes, warns you too, it also does automatic virus scans ect, ect.

Anyway, not knocking what you do, just letting you know, your installing all this stuff for no reason other then for other companies to make money off you AND money off selling your information to third parties, to sell ads to place on your computer.

Your statement is correct.
But I am willing to bet over 90% of the population doesnt turn it off and doesnt know it even exists in google because they think google is their friend.
Furthmore, google has a data base on every place you travel with your phone, searchable by date, time and year, available to anyone who uses your password.
So Google is the only company that makes it available to anyone who accesses your gmail account.

My question would be why do people allow it? and why does google by default track, map by date and time your every single movement, instead, if it is a feature that you want, then allow you to enable you to turn it on.
Instead the default is on and you need to know it exists to turn it off.

Oh, thats right, people think google is their friend. :o)

I guess I'll just forget about it and live with it if there is nothing I can do about it?
As far as using the other security stuff, I am going to have to dig more into it more but being as I am use to it and all, I may just continue to use it for the time being?
The only one I pay for is Avast. It was recommended and installed when I purchased my computer from a Non big store shop where I know the owner somewhat.
As for the others, I downloaded them "Free" from Filehippo.com.

Thanks for the help/tips, guys. I appreciate it.

CCleaner was always great to get rid of things Windows would leave behind or otherwise "forget about." I haven't gone into Windows 10 at all to know how well it cleans up things like that. Others will have to provide their experiences on that. I've used it up to and including Windows 7. I will say that the actual utility I'm gaining from CC has decreased over the years. Windows has gotten somewhat better at uninstalling programs, leaving fewer fragments. I set my browser to delete all history and cookies on close, so that never has to be cleaned up. I don't even open IE, so that's not something CC has to address, either. I remember years ago on the office computer running CC once every couple weeks or so, and freeing up hundreds of megabytes each time. Now, if I clean up 85 megabytes after a couple months, that's a lot.

And yes, unfortunately one has to live with nuisance things in Windows. I'd have loved to obliterate IE on some Windows boxes over the years, but that's not even remotely feasible. So, I stuck with Firefox on those machines and never worried about it. For that matter, where Windows wasn't needed (and usually, it's not), I found a better way to get rid of IE. Remove Windows altogether.

For almost everything, I've used Linux for many, many years.

CCleaner Hacked with Malware

That was one version a long time ago, and only on the 32-bit version. It's been fixed a long time ago. And I would think the CCleaner guys are looking hard for any malware compromising angles after the one case.

I think all these "cleaners" and antivirus software and system utilities have done more damage and SLOWED down more peoples computers then the things they say they will fix/prevent then if they left it alone and never downloaded anything.

Its like the modern day version of motor oil additives for computer systems (snake oil)
Stick with Windows 10 utilities, dont download [censored] onto your computer, dont add in "free" antivirus software, its all [censored].
