I tried a Michelob Amber Bock tonight. Pretty good. Sam Adams is the only domestic beer I like, but this was good. I could drink it.

You need to get out more often. You have no brew pubs near you? Never tried Sierra Nevada? Widmer? Rogue? (all bottled examples)

Are you serious? This is South Carolina.

Heck, I can't even buy the more interesting Sam Adams brews because they contain too much alcohol.

I'm not a "big" beer drinker. I just enjoy one occasionally, which generally means a six pack purchased once in a while at the local grocer. Sam Adams is the best domestic beer available at the grocer, IMO. Though I will probably be trying this Amber Bock again.

AmberBock is one of my favorite macro brews. My favorite bottled beer is Heineken Dark. Most micro brews are better than the big boys IMHO.

I really feel sorry for you G-MAN. If amber bock and Sam Adams are "good" beers to you then you have much more to taste.

a few Sam Adams beers are drinkable but out west we have sooooo much better tasting beer that it's not worth wasting time on it.

You know, when it comes to an individual's preference for foods, drinks, cigars, or whatever, I just don't understand people who take the stance you have in this post. My mother likes pickled beets. I'd rather die than eat them. I think they are horrible. But I don't "feel sorrow" for my mother because she thinks they are delicious. She likes 'em, I don't. End of story.

all that I meant is that there is alot more good domestic beer out there that isn't available in your area. it's too bad you don't get to try some of it.
I didn't mean to say that you have bad taste.

I've had it before when in a bar with no good beer. It's not bad for a "common" beer, but nothing great. I'm a Sam Adams drinker also. Unfortunately most places, especially small towns, have "both kinds of beer": Miller AND Bud.

A lot of people I know get all upset when they see a beer darker then water.

I'm not a big beer drinker. I may get a six pack of Sam Adams and drink one a night until it's gone and then go for 2 or 3 months without having a beer...until the urge strikes again.

I used to hate beer. I thought all beer was like Miller and Bud. Didn't like the taste and couldn't see what all the hoopla was about. Then about twenty years ago I picked up a friend of mine at the airport who was doing graduate work in Germany. He brought back several bottles of German beer. That night he made me try one after dinner and I couldn't believe how good it was. He was the one who turned me on the Sam Adams if I wanted a readily available beer that actually had some flavor to it.

G-MAN, your story sounds familiar. I was the same way, I'd completely steered clear of them after only trying the common stuff(like Coors)

Then after trying some real stuff I found out that I actually like it. Sam Adams is probably my favorite "light beer", but I also like a lot of dark beer. Summit(a local company) makes some real good stuff.

It's too bad so many people have "learned to like" the popular stuff because it's all you can get. I guess you could say Bud, miller and Coors are the Frams of the beer world.

Saw "Natural Light" in a quick stop's front window (yes, setting in the sun)yesterday for $10.30 per 30 pack,,,,I'll gay-ron-tee there's worse than Miller!

They are nowhere near the quality of Fram. I had a Millers recently, if there's a worse beer in the world than that I've yet to taste it.

"Old Style" by Hileman's is the worst beer. http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/heilemans-old-style/7498/3677/

I'd rather take my chances drinking milk that's been expired by 4 days than drink Old Style. Bleecchh.

I didn't know Miller owned Hileman's. When did Miller purchase them? Moreover, WHY would Miller purchase Hileman's?
