Just bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in a 205/55R16 size and was curious if anyone had any experience with these tires. I don't get them installed until tomorrow and have the option of backing out. Was looking for maximum stick(in oem size) in wet and dry, no cold temperatures. Tire life not important. Thanking everyone in advance for reading and/or responding.

That size isn't showing up on Tire Rack. Interesting.

The only other tire you might want to consider is the Continental ExtremeContact Sport. Maybe. But I wouldn't sweat it. Either way, you'll have chosen well. No reason whatsoever to back out.

You sure you're looking at the Pilot Sport 4 and not the Pilot Sport 4S?

Be sure of what your getting first. If they are 5 years old or some other deal breaker, maybe try BFG (a michelin brand) sport comp 2's or its competitors? They come in smaller sizes. I'm pretty thrilled with them on my Focus, and as they are wearing they are getting better for autocross this year. For cheap grip in the dry and wet, with decent life and noise, I'd get them again.

Yeah your right. I was looking at the Pilot Sport 4S and not just the Pilot Sport 4.
I just could not find the Sport 4 being sold in the US. They are not listed on the Michelin US web site.
Found them on the UK site.
Looks like a super tire.

Firehawk Indy500, I'm impressed after 5,000mi. I'm not really stressing them but otherwise very pleasant.

Thanks for the feedback. The tires are being used outside the U.S.
The Continentals are great tires from what I have read but I couldn't readily find in that size.
I definitely will be checking the build date although the PS4 is relatively new to market.
Firestone not readily available here.
Now my only concern is that it will rain for the next 5 days as it usually does when I buy new tires.

The Pilot Sport 4 isn't that old, so we should be good there. :]

From what I've heard, the Pilot Sport 4 is mainly an OE tire, and the 4S is mainly for the aftermarket. Tire Rack only lists the 4 in one size on their site, but I've started seeing that tire on some high-end cars around here, so I'd bet it's available through dealer networks and/or by special order.

The Pilot Sport 4 is the lower end replacement for the Pilot Super Sport. They are ALMOST as good as the Super Sport. The Pilot Sport 4S is the stickier version and is an upgrade from the Pilot Super Sport.

Glad Michelin made this so straight forward. [/sarcasm]

I always look for maximum stick in wet and dry, too.

I just put 215/40r18 Michelin PSS on my Mazda RX8 that has 7.5 x18 Enkei GF-1 wheels.

These tires are beefy enough that they still look big enough in that smaller size, and they fit wheel exactly for no slop on rim.

I had alignment set to slight front tow out for track day, and it would pull toward ridges or off camber pavement.

Now none of that pull, and they ride great.

Best tires I ever bought, and most expensive for a car, but only $176 each at Discount tire.

I got $8.50/tire off by bringing print of some tire warehouse lower price, and even got the $70 Michelin debit card (I was watching for it).

In terms of what replaced what, the scheme was:

Pilot Sport 3 -> Pilot Sport 4
Pilot Super Sport -> Pilot Sport 4S

What you're saying might be roughly true performance-wise though.

I look at it that way because the 4S is only 19" and up, the 4 comes in smaller sizes.

The 4S comes in one 18" size, and apparently Michelin plans to release it in every size they made the Super Sport for.

I am anxiously waiting. My 18" SS are getting low and I am at the limit of traction already. Anything less would not be good.
