Michelin LTX M/S 2

I recomended these tires for a friends '07 Honda Pilot AWD. My recomendation came from research & reviews, not my own personal experience.

From those of you that have these tires, I'd like to hear from members here at Bob's, what you think of your LTX M/S 2's, especially from Pilot owners driving in 4 seasons, if any

These folks haven't liked any of the tires they had prior(OE BridgeStone Duelers, then a 2nd set, & Kumho KR-21). Each of those tires had their pros/cons.

Did I make the right recomendation. If they don't like these tires, I don't think that there is anywhere to go from here.

I have a set on my Ranger. I just got them; they have less than 2k miles on them. They are tons better than the OEM Goodyears I had on it before. I can actually drive in the rain without constantly feeling like I'm about to hydroplane out of control. Dry traction is much better too. The only thing I don't like about them is my gas mileage went down about 1 mpg. (Yes, they're inflated properly.)

I had them on a Montero , i really liked them, very good grip in rain & snow, great ride quality too, 5 stars for Michelin.

I was going to put a set of these on but my tire place wanted to charge me $1,000 for them !!!

For a crossover, I would be inclined to choose a tire that is more fuel-efficient. On cars with such low mpgs to begin with, any improvement can yield significant $$ savings in the long-run.

I would consider the Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia.

The LTX M/S2's are an excellent tire that perform well in all areas. My parents have them on their Expedition. They weren't available when I bought mine, so I ended up with the LTX M/S first-gens.

They wear like iron as well, which is a significant plus.

No imports here, just giant 3500 Savanas and Silverados.

Every single one has a set of LTX MS or MS2's on it. Worst mileage is over 60k miles on a 9500 pound van! Best mileage is still being tested, these things can really last.

Fantastic tire, can be bought relatively cheap online.

LTX series tires, and LTX M/S 2 especially, are phenomenal tires. You are lucky if they are available in your size, since they are probably the best you can get.

I am not a big Michelin fan in general simply because their tires are so expensive it is not worth the slight advantages you may get with them vs other tires. I also personally feel I can actually get an equal to or even better tire for less when it comes to the LTX M+S series.

However, with that said, the LTX M+S and M+S2 tires are without doubt in the top 5 anyway for AS light truck/suv tires. If these people are not happy with them they will not be happy with any tire you recommend.

The LTX M+S/M+S2's would not be my 1st choice for a light truck/suv tire as I sort of talk of earlier due to $$$. However, if I did recommend them, and the person complained about them over anything but cost, I would know there is no pleasing this person AT ALL. I would tell them to pick their own tires next time and leave me out of it.

I have 12k miles on mine and I'm sold on them, all I'll ever run.

Wear like iron, and for an on road tire they do pretty good in the dirt; which on my truck they see every day.

IMHO worth every cent.

They are fantastic. Whatever fuel penalty there is is gained back tenfold by their snow performance. They are quiet (though mine are pretty new).

They are so good I'm mad I can't get them for our minivan.

You pay a bit more for ltx tires but they pay you back when they last forever. They don't seem to lose much performance as they wear either.

That's a unique attribute that really sets them apart from other brands. They do not seem to get noisy or lose the traction they had when they were new.

I have a set of LTX M/S2s with 20-25,000 miles on them, they replaced a set of X Radial LTs (Sam's version of LTX M/S) that lasted for ~8 years and over 130,000 miles on the same truck.

I like the LTX M/S2s even better than the old X Radials as they are notably better in the wet.

It is my honest opinion that these are the best light truck tires made, the fact that they cost a little more is more than offset by their longevity and general performance.

I have a set of MS/2's on a '73 Coupe DeVille that I drive and they are in short, stellar. This car is a "one wheel wonder". It doesn't have posi-traction or any of the other fancy stuff and I live in the mountain states where ice and snow are common.

I can stop at the bottom of a very steep driveway covered in ice and then drive up it with no problem. Wet roads and rain I can drive on just as I drive on dry roads. Snow traction is great as well. Dry traction is unsurpassed. They seem to be too much for a car designed for bias ply tires but I have suspension mods that help in that area.

From what I've read and heard this 39 year old car "might" reach the end of it's service life before these MS/2's wear out. I doubt it but I might have to buy another '73 just to wear them out.

I've been very impressed after running Firestone 380's for the last 10 years. Yes, I know, there is no contest but I finally found out what I was missing. It was a LOT! I can finally drive on the ice and snow as well as wet roads without the " great white knuckler" grip on the wheel.

UPDATE:

I received a phone call last night from my buddy later in the evening(10 pm-ish) just arriving home from having the tires installed and going for quite a drive! HE stated that their Honda Pilot now rides, handles and just all around, feels better than when new with firm steering. This is HER Pilot but, HE has never really liked the Pilot much until now!

"I can't believe how much one tire can make such a difference" he said excitedly!

HE has had Michelin tires(snow/ice tires) over the years but nothing as nice as these, he claims. "What a differenct"! he said over the phone.

SHE hasn't even driven the Pilot yet since the tires were just installed last evening. She'll drive it this morning(soon, ATMOF) on her way to work, and I am curious if she'll notice much. If she does, hopefully it will be for the better. Although no tires in her opinion have ever been a life altering experience. I hope these do!

I had one of my techs ask me if we had put new suspension pieces on his truck after new LTX MS were installed!

Truly a great one. Wait till your friend sees how long they last.

Michelin's LTX M/S line (and now the M/S2) is truly one of Michelin's best tire lines, and like others have said, are demonstrably about the best light truck tire you can get. They seemingly do everything well. They have a long tread wear rating (720 on the sidewall), and almost unprecedented for a light truck tire, especially one with only a T speed rating, have "A" ratings for both traction and temperature. You get what you pay for, and you get a TON of tire in the Michelin LTX M/S2.

One that would have been equal to the task is the Latitude Tour. It's Michelin's SUV/CUV line of tires, and is also an extremely good tire. Both of these tire lines are at the top of their market segments.

My wife did comment when I put the Latitude Tours on the CR-V, and she usually doesn't notice stuff like that. Your friend's wife will love the M/S2s on her Pilot.
