Looking to get a new car with either 205/55/16 with Defender, or a trim above with 225/45/17 with Michelin Premier. Both H speed rated I believe.

Those will go on either an elantra GL SE or a GLS.

Any opinion on both? Or alternative that would be better.

Im looking for a quiet ride and durability.

First pic is with the 16s and second with 17s.

I cant make up my mind on the color of the car, but i love this blue, iron grey and black!!

Thanks!

I'd go with the 16". The do ride better as MParr states.

Are you going to be using dedicated winter tires? If not, then you should consider the CrossClimate+ which is one of those 3-peak all-season "all weather" tires.

205/55-16 is the better pick in size by far!

If cost of long term ownership is an issue, I believe 205/55/16 is the most abandon tire size of the century. Decent used tires are available.

+1 on the Michelin Crossclimate+, which has better specs and will meet winter requirements for your environment. There is nothing that the tire does not do well, but it may be a little noisy. It's only available in the 16" size.

I agree! The 16" will give a nice(er) ride while still having decent handling and less road noise than the 17"

Also, aren't winter tires mandatory on vehicles registered & driven in Canada?

The 2018 GL SE comes with 16" wheel & tire combo
The 2018 GLS and Limited come with 17" wheel & tire combo
I have no idea what brand tires are OE on Hyundai cars sold in Canada. In the USA Hyundai vehicles come with Nexen, Kumho and Hankook.
If you want the GLS, the dealer may be willing to swap the 17" combo for a 16" combo. If the Michelin are not OE tires, that will probably cost you extra.

Just Quebec and some parts of B.C. (2017 data).

Only in Quebec.

My dad bought a 2014 KIA Forte EX. It came equipped with the 17" combo with Nexen tires as OE. The tire and road noise was pretty pronounced. The performance of the Nexen tires was horrible. It was terrible in wet conditions, to the point of being dangerous. He replaced the Nexen tires with Goodyear Eagle Sport tires. The overall performance was much better. The tire noise was reduced but, with a 17" combo, there will still be more road noise than with the 16" combo.

You're correct. It's not. This is minutiae.

Yesterday, it was brakes. Now, it is tires. No idea where this is going.

Haha I know dude, im trying to get the best bang for the buck, either way I got a great deal, only 10 bucks diffrence betwee the GLS with 17s and GL SE with 16s.

Only diffrence is that the GLS is leather, 17s wheels, 4 disc brakes, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning.

If you were just talking tires I would steer to the Defenders and stay away from the Premiers. This is just my opinion based on
ride quality and tire longevity.

Wasn't the $10.00 difference actually $20.00 a month because you posted payments of bi-weekly in the other thread I thought?

It was for me buying my new f150. The 20 inch made the ride too rough, especially coupled with the fx4 shocks. The ride is already a little rough with the aluminum bed and the 18 inch ride quite a bit better. And were white wall.
