When I make right hand tight slow turns (like in parking lots), I hear a distinct metallic rubbing sound coming from the right rear of the car.

I thought it had to do with my brakes since they were pretty much toast. Took it to the shop and had rear rotors and pads replaced. Shop looked it over and didn't find anything unusual, but afterward, the sound is still there. What could it be? Wheel bearing? It's not a whine type sound though... more like gentle rub of two metal parts.

This is on my 530i.

I would check to see if your parking brake is fully disengaging on that side. On my 330ci, I had an issue with the parking brake in which one side was grabbing and the other side wasn't because the cable had stretched or needed adjustment. When I would park it on a steep driveway, it would only grab on the right side causing the right side to squat slightly and the left side to seem higher when the car tried to roll back against the parking brake.

The right side suspension was loading up while holding back the the weight of the car. Sort of irrelevant to your question I suppose except to he extent that it is illustrative of the fact that these systems require adjustment from time to time.

Interesting suggestion regarding the parking brake. I bet the shop did not bother to check that, and my parking brake does seem quite weak lately. I wish I had mentioned it to them when I was there yesterday.
