Mercedes-Benz Power Steering Fluid

I went to the Mercedes dealer today, to pick up some PSF for my wife's '04 ML350 (which has a power steering fluid leak that will be fixed this week due to a recall by Mercedes).

Anyway, here are a couple pics of the bottle. No fancy Euro-spec #'s or anything of the sort. Underwhelmed! Anybody want to guess what the price was for the quart?

I'm sure it's expensive.

How has that MB running, I remember you posted some pictures when you first bought it.

Thats actually very reasonable for a quart of Mercedes-Benz power steering fluid from the dealership.

That's about 40% less than AMSOIL power steering fluid.

It looks sort of like the Mobil motor oil bottle. I wonder if that power steering fluid is the same as for VW.

In case anyone was wondering, when I said I almost passed out when I found out this stuff was $7.99/qt., it was because I expected it to cost much more. I was happily surprised. From the looks and (rancid) smell of it, I'm guessing it is nothing special; but since there is no spec # listed, I can't search for any equivalent product.

lpcmidst128, I agree with you. This looks like a Mobil bottle. My guess is that Mobil is M-B's U.S. supplier of this fluid. I'm also thinking this stuff is just re-labeled Dexron III ATF.

power steering fluid fluid should still be CHF11S $14.99 is pretty cheap for a liter of OEM as the Pentosin is selling for $19.99 at the local parts store.

The Mercedes doesn't call for CHF11S.

It's also made in the USA. CHF11S is made in Germany.

I'm mistaken. Didn't realize that the suvs of mercedes still used atf vice cars using CHF11S

Silver lining: At least the M-B dealer is only a couple miles from my office.

Last time a coworker needed some, it was about $15/qt.

It certainly does have a smell unlike other PSF products, buy I am not sure how much better the stuff is versus ordinary power steering fluid or ATF.

Ee-yow, yes, I remember that stuff. I don't remember why I bought the MB fluid to put in my W202. But I'll never forget the horrible stench -- like stale garlic pretzels dissolved in male cat spray.

Yes, that describes the smell accurately. It's nasty.
