I know members come and go, but has anyone heard from ‘Eljefino’ recently?
He used to post a lot of inexpensive cars he bought and fixed up, interesting repairs he did…just thinking haven’t seen a posting from him recently!

He changed his name to "The_Jeff", posted very recently:

Whatever happened to the guy who'd drive cross-country and stay overnight at a motel to save fifteen bucks on shipping for various used auto parts he bought? Or the guy who'd go to war with anyone who said anything blasphemous about Toyota?

I remember Eljefino. He was a good guy. :(
He is still here. He changed his username. @The_Jeff

As far as the others - keep in mind that most users don’t see every post made by a member, particularly those that cause moderation.

Further, members will never see the PMs between moderators and users.

In the just the past week, profanity-laced tirades from members (that were quickly taken down) resulted in permanent bans. It’s unfortunate that people chose to act this way, but the outcome of that is inevitable, and permanent.

First guy sounds like Atikovi. He is a used car salesguy that seemed to buy, fix, and sell cars for profit as his main source of income. He posted pictures of his cars in front of a fancy house in, I think, Washington DC. His exploits were very interesting and often humorous. Something must have happened and he left one day and didn't return.

Atikovi is still active on eBay Motors selling cars and parts.

Coming up on 20 years here and continue to check in often. For many of us who’ve been here for many years it’s become a part of our lives. You may initially deny it but if you think about you’ll find it’s true. Like family there are some you enjoy hearing from and others who give you a headache from their negativity and arrogance. We have members who have passed away and are missed. Some, as in life, just move on.

GearHeadTool was a special case. He had many, many identities on the site. We knew them all, both from digital footprint and from posting style. We were aware of the violation of our multiple identity rules, but he received a lot more “grace” from moderators than most. A lot more. I was the lead advocate on that decision. Ultimately, he wasn’t able to comply with our guidelines.

He is living in his home state, and doing well. I keep in touch with him via text messaging and just heard from him two days ago.

I wonder what happened to pimtac and UG_Passat (sp?). They just dropped off the map around the same time.

The transmission in his kitchen sink lol.

Always wondered if we'd get the skinny on the name change. I figured it was some progressive cultural appropriation complaint

BTW, The_Jeff is incredibly uninspired. Just sayin' -- way to phone it in :p

Folks - people who you “don’t see” anymore may be posting, but you’re not seeing them.

But if they’re truly not posting anymore, there are three broad categories:
1. They’ve passed away, e.g Blue Oval Fitter, who passed away at a relatively young age.
2. They’ve lessened the amount of time spent here - and many of us have done that.
3. They’ve been banned, either temporarily or permanently.

Out of respect for each of them, you won’t get public affirmation from a moderator on what happened. You guys discussed Blue Oval Fitter, so, I am OK sharing that information, because it exists elsewhere on the site.

But for 3, above, none of the moderators will share what was said in PM or in now-deleted posts that caused the ban, out of respect for the privacy of that PM or that individual.

And I assure you, the offensive, personal, nasty, and often childish invective I’ve seen in PMs would shock you guys.

But that kind of tirade sure helps to clarify a moderator’s decision to ban someone.

You’ll never see it, but that is often at the root of the ban decision.
