I did a search, but I can't seem to find a clear answer if they are the same thing or not. Or if the Meijers synthetic oil is even any good.

I run the super tech in one of my cars and I'd gladly run it in our Corolla, but I can never find 5w 30 synthetic at wal mart, but I noticed that Meijers had it.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

I think it's the same Warren base oil. The add-packs may be slightly different. That includes Sears house brand too.

Personally speaking, I would use any name brand synthetic on sale first. Right now, Valvoline Synpower can be yours for $2.50 qt after rebate at Auto Zone.

Look for sales on name brands. They are better trusted -- better name producing them.

Last year I saw "Bottled (or was it packaged) by Citgo" on the back of the Meijer brand oil. The other day I looked and it did not say that. But maybe it was only the high mileage that said it and I did not see the high mileage Meijer oil this time.

You can get NAPA house brand which is Valvoline, but Valo techs tell me it is is not as good as the actual Valvoline.

....which is scary enough to say the least

Does it have the API Starburst?

If it does you know it meets atleast minimum standards for it's rating.

I am currently using Supertech syn in my Dodge. While I won't say it has cured my gout, it has lubricated my engine pretty good.

In my area of the country we don't have any Meijers, or Kragans.

FWIW, Citgo in Cicero, Illinois does custom blending & packaging for quite a few private brands.

The synthetic has the Auto Trend name. That's Warren Oil.

The stuff Paul talks about goes by the name "Meijer Oil". It comes dino and high mileage. That's different -- could be Citgo.

After searching, I found that all the regular oil is Citgo and marked on the bottle. I can't find it now, but I found a thread that showed that the wal mart synthetic and meijer bottle was worded exacly the same and that it probably isn't made by citgo. I'm just trying to find a clear answer before I use it.

I might just try and put in a request at Wal-Mart to just order the 5w 30.

I've searched and found a number of good oil test that show that the wal-mart supertech is acually pretty decent stuff. I run 10w 30 in a turbo car with a super tech filter and my lifter tick went away. I was running mobil 1. I change the oil often, so I'm just going with the cheaper stuff and the group III synthetics are working good enough for me.

Oddly enough, I first used super tech dino oil in a CRX I had a few years ago. I used to run Pennzoil in it and one day after doing some internet reading, I decided to try wal marts oil. The car acually ran smoother?!?!?!

While I know Mobil 1, Amsoil, red line, royal purple n stuff are the best, I'm not 100% sold a lot of the brand name stuff is really that much better. Mainly Castol Syntec vrs Super Tech scyntetic. Both are group III and it just comes down to additives.

Meijer syn is Warren, just like WM and Sears. FYI,if you are looking for cheap synthetic, AZ has Coastal for .99 a quart, and Advance is closing out the Havoline Syn for .75 a quart.

Update:

Just email walmart and they will stock what you want.

I couldn't find 5w 30 synthetic all winter long, but now two local walmarts have it.

If you are going to change you oil every 3,000...The Wal-Mart Syn is fine...Why waste your money on Mobil 1 when you can purchase just about 2 five quart jugs of Wal-Mart Syn vs Mobil 1...

Well, 3K on the turbo car, 5K on the Toyota. Either way, it's still a decent engine oil. Castrol Syntec mix cost the same as wal marts full synthetic. I know it's only a group III oil with additives, but so is Castrol Syntec full synthetic.

I'll go with the $12.58 5 qt jug and $2.07 filter over a lot of brand name stuff that isn't really that much better. In some cases, I wonder if it is any better. I know a fram filter cost more then a super tech filter and the fram is a *** filter.

You pretty much need to buy a wix filter or a purlator fitler to do better then a super tech filter. As long as you arn't going for long haul oil changes, or protecting a high performance engine, I'm don't think spending the extra cash is woth it. Anymore, now days, people trade in cars before the engine is dead anyway. Unless it's something that you want to keep forever, don't feed it gold.

Valvoline and Napa Oil have to be the exact same as they actually use the same MSDS with different name and address but yet if you go from 1qt to 1 gallon containers you get new control numbers. But they both have the same control number for Napa oil and Valvoline. Would be different if different!!!
