Meat Smokers

I have the Smokey Mtn. good smoker but takes some attention. My BIL and a friend both have Trager pellet grills. Those are about as simple as it gets, do a great job but are kind of pricey. That would be my pick if I got another.

Had the Masterbuilt electric, remote controlled. Lasted 8 months, then the control board went belly uo.
Cheaper to replace than repair after shipping to a service center, so it got taken to a dumpster at work.
Best smelling trash ever for about a week.
Still on the hunt for a replacement, I've got a bad taste for Masterbuilt... pun intended.

What size do you have?

i think a big decision point on what setup depends on if youre going for brisket and need 10hrs+ of cook time,

so if you plan on waking up 4times a night to check and feed the unit, or if you want to set it and forget it and sleep so you can actually entertain and have fun on your sunday party.

I can maintain temp between 225-275 on my Weber One touch 22.5 inch bbq (150$ canadian) for 15 hours using weber brand charcoal and the snake method. No need to get up in middle of night

Electric and pellet have not much user input, although sometimes easier is better!

Can you explain the snake method?

I think that is where you put the charcoal in a line like a snake, and you just light one end.

You may want to consider a kamado. The versatility can't be beat.

Royal oak lump is available all over. I've never tasted better grilled or smoked than what comes off of mine.

I'd be cooking mostly for the family, but occasionally a few friends. I was debating between the 2 bigger ones.

I had one of their grills and it was poorly made. It only lasted 3 years before rusting away. I'm curious about the quality of this one.

It's a different method of cooking and kamado csn maintain a low and slow heat for very long periods of time. It cooks the same as a Big Green Egg but costs a fraction of one. But ceramic never rusts...it does crack and it's super heavy. I've had one for five years. It's rusted a bit because I've let it sit but I could easily clean it up to new in 20 minutes with a wire brush and a can of Pam. I bought the smaller model 3 weeks ago for our deck. It's $99!now at Lowes.
