McCullough 3227 weed eater-no ignition

My McCullough weed eater is not producing a spark at the plug. Checked the plug in another weed eater and plug is good. By-passed the kill switch by disconnecting and connected a wire b/w both posts. Still no spark. Assuming the problem is related to the flywheel/magneto I am now stuck trying to remove the clutch in order to get to the flywheel/magneto. I see no way to remove the clutch drum. Any suggestions on how to access the flywheel/magneto would be appreciated.

That model has an allen head right down the center square slot where the drive cable goes. (I think) Also I will add, mags for that model are super hard to find and are of low quality.

I just want to make sure that you have this right before you go further. Connecting the two posts on the kill switch "kills" the engine. Leaving them open would allow the engine to run. Closing that circuit grounds the spark, in essence turning the switch on turns the spark off.

I tried it both ways.

I'll look closer. I have another 3227 for parts but not sure if the mag is still good. Thanks!

if you cant fix it using parts you already have or a simple cleaning, spark plug or carb kit, its time to give up as its not worth puting $ into, not being rude, just realistic
