I use Bitdefender free as my recommended antivirus for every computer I work on, and my own windows computer. I have never ever had any issues with it whatsoever. I absolutely love how light it is, and how they don't nag you to upgrade to the paid version. I have yet to find a better AV.

I hate McA. It brought a friends confuser to a crawl..literally. Right after boot-up.

Bingo. Run dual boot if you want gaming or something, but if you really need to do stuff on the net, do it on the Linux side.

Linux is that good ?

I thought about Linux for some years but didn't have the gut to try it, my laptop is still running on Window XP.

Lately it is very very slow. I may try to save some of my files and Window XP to an USB driver then do some more research about Linux and how to use it.

I downloaded Bitdefender, when I click on "Run" the respond was "Bitdefender is not compatible with your system".

My OS is Window XP.

Bitdefender 2016 does not support windows XP. I think they are talking about the free version of Bitdefender that should still support windows XP, but heck they may have changed that too. Anyway, you can ask questions at Wilders via the Bitdefender free thread.

I prefer Eset or kaspersky.

McCrppee is the worst of the well known AV.

Not saying you couldnt find something more awful

like Golden pandabear from china.. but you would have to actually look to find a worse one.

You can always burn yourself a Live DVD and give it a shot first, before trying to install anything. Installation is even pretty basic these days.

When I got my new computer a week or so ago, I spent more time fiddling around in Windows to get it set up to download and burn the latest Linux Mint image than it took me to actually install Linux Mint.

A decent Linux distribution (i.e. Mint with Mate or something similar) should run very quickly for you, if you're finding Windows a bit slow. Running a Live DVD isn't exactly a good measure of performance, but it will show you what you might be getting into.

I reviewed PC Magazines article on top antivirus programs and found McAfee was listed as one of the top 3 or 4 listed. I called McAfee and was able to get the version best suited for my home use for $27.xx/year instead of the original $59.99 rate, so I renewed it. Thanks for all the input.. Ed
