After looking into the RA filters, I think I may just end up going with the Pro Tec. Made by Wix and seem to be good for a 5k interval.

Pro-Tec is the same as the old Supertech filters when Wix made them (same as the Microgard). Seems there were a few other brands that are the same also.
It will be a combo valve design filter just so you know.

It will look like this inside

If you're not a big fan of the MC oil filter, why not use a FRAM OCOD? Yeah, I know, I used to beat them up pretty bad. BUT, you have to admit, FRAM stepped up and added a silicone ADBV. In my book, that's a +! Sure, I'm not a big fan of their fiber end caps. BUT, if it works and gets the job done, why not use it? They are still priced under $4 at Walmart, correct? And, it will easily do 5K mile OCI's.

I don't have confidence in the MC anymore after seeing all the tearing. I just want a good cheap filter that will do 5k.

I use the MC FL-400S on my engine when I'm not using a WIX, PLATINUM, NG, FU, etc.
Why not go stock up on the NAPA PLATINUM oil filter for your engine? They're on sale this month for $4.99. And, they're a darn good filter, liked on this forum very much.
Do you need a 5 gallon bucket? Buy one at NAPA for $2.99 and put (3) PLATINUM oil filters in it. You will get 20% off. Minimum of 3 items in the bucket to receive the 20% off, but you might find other items to add.

I don't think it's gonna work, they usually dont combine promotions. Have you tried it?

Hmmmm, good point. I didn't think of that. BUT, I haven't looked at the fine print to see if it states that.
I have not tried it.
I just read the fine print. You're right, it's not allowed.

In my opinion, yes.

+1 on "yes"

Good filter is a cheap insurance.
If you do 5k over a long period of time - couple of bucks doesn't matter.
If you drive a lot - buy a Fram XG2/FPS2 and leave it there for up to 20k miles, just change the oil every 5k
