I am running low on my stash of 820s' so the time has come to decide what filter I'll be stocking up on next. I have not noticed any issues running my 820s variety, though, I have never cut one open (I'm afraid to lol). The question is, do I restock on 820s' since I hear that they are moving away from Purolator? Do I stock up on the newer, e-core, ST2 filters? The oci's are 5k and 70% hwy driving conditions. Truck is 2wd and has 154k on it currently.

I see a white champ labs on there for 2.06. How are the Pro Tec's? They're a 1.34 and I think I read on here that they might be a Wix copy??

Just checked RA for your vehicle and Champ labs is a different filter, not the one I was talking about.
Not sure about protecs,
but I've heard good things about ECOGARD S4651 Extended Interval Media - this one is $3.5 and around $7 on amazon, might be an option

Wix Pro-Tec should be comparable if not identical to Napa ProSelect and MicroGard. Not a bad choice at all!

I've cut open ST2's. While I'm sure they will be ok in service, you still get what you pay for. You do not get a silicone adbv, which is my absolute minimum requirement for an oil filter to have on my cars.

And if you're already at Walmart, you can just as easily pick up some FL820S filters.

So would you all think that the 820s is now being made by another manufacturer?

I don't know who makes them now, but in the past I had them leak down repeatedly (multiple filters) even with their Si adbv. not worth the risk any more.

For about $1 more or maybe less, you can buy the Napa Platinum this month on sale ($5 each). Stock up on those. Run them twice as long and you will be way ahead on both quality and cost vs. either the 820 or ST2.

Never heard that the 820 was changing manufacturer.
Seem I did hear about the OEM filter maker changing (made by Champ now instead of Wix?).
OEM from factory and Motorcraft are not the same filter.

I had an Ecogard S4651 off my F150 posted HERE.
While iIt was a decent filter, I personally feel it is priced too high a the current $6.80 from Walmart (and over $10 on Amazon). It is $3.56 currently on Rockauto, but you need to ad in shipping costs for that.
I feel it is on par with a Fram ToughGuard, which is priced about the same at Walmart, and readily available.

For the ST2, I am just not a fan of the combo valve (ADV and bypass in one). While I can't prove anything wrong with them, I just don't like them. I have used both the Wix (old ST) style and Champ (new ST) style, and again, no issues with the combo valve, but not a fan.

I have always liked Wix and NAPA Gold, but they are costly as well (no NAPA around me has a sale ever it seems).

And after having had a torn Purolator made filter, and seeing all the others, no Purolator made filters for me.

I have a few TG2 left in my stash, and when those are gone, not sure what I will get. I know it will not be a Motorcraft 820 (or any other Purolator made filter), no ST2, nor a Wix/NAPA Gold (unless I find them for under $5).
For the price and my needs, it will truthfully probably be a PH2 (unless I decide to get a XG2 and run it for 4-5 years(, unless I find the Ecogard S4651 for <$4 total cost, then I will buy a few of them instead.

All that thread says is there is a new box.
Nothing as to the Motorcraft manufacture changing.

I know, but it started out as "Hey, these new Motorcraft filters look different ... who's making them now?" Then it grew legs.

This is where my mind was heading. Thanks for the clarification that there is not a new manufacturer

I agree with slavaB there are some great deals on Champion filter from Rockauto, not Champ labs. I am running on my F150 and they seem fine great construction with silicon.ADV.

I've checked and there was no champion filter for 2008 F150 on RA, which one do you run?

But If I only intend to run 5k intervals, is a silicone ADV really necessary? Wouldn't rubber be just fine?
