Mazdaspeed 3 manual transmission fluid question?

If you own a mazdaspeed 3 then you probably already know the car does not seem to like the cold. I noticed this a lot last winter and it has started again this winter- the stick is difficult to move around and into gears when the car is cold. The shifter is just not as friendly in the cold temperatures and the gearbox makes more noise when shifting.

So my question is this. Do you guys think changing the manual transmission oil would help alleviate this issue? I think some people have had luck and others have not. I guess I want to hear your thoughts.


Also if I were to change it what would you suggest as the best replacement oil?

Whats the fluid currently in use?

Drain the factory fill and replace it with Redline MT-90. This transmission loves it. My 1-2 shift got better instantly and shift quality is better overall regardless of temperature.

A synthetic fluid will improve the cold weather "stiffness"...

I recommend: Amsoil MTG 75W-90 GL-4

I am a bigger fan of AMSOIL than readline. I think if I do decide to do it I will go with the AMSOIL. Not sure if I will have the dealer do it or if I will try this one myself. Either way I think I will wait till the spring- I only have 9K on the car so the fluids should all be fine that came in the car. And in the spring I will be more willign to do it myself- too cold for me to do it now.
