Car is 2007 Mazda3 i, at 112k miles.

Evap leak detection pump (LDP) issue started to show this time of year last year. MIL was on, and DTCs were p2405 and p2402. Before this happened, around this time of year, for a few years, the car had problem accepting gas, it would click off after a gallon or 2 was pumped. Fast forward to this year, code p2405 showed again. This time, instead of wiping the code, I left it be and made appointment with dealer for a fix. Car is still under emissions warranty. After a few days with MIL on, the DTC cleared by itself before my appointment.

I understand the LDP is the main issue, as i had cleaned and replaced the filter attached to the LDP, checked the purge solenoid which holds vacuum very well. Checked the EVAP lines and hoses. Problem is that the genius Mazda engineers tucked the LDP above the rear subframe, which has to be dropped a few inches to get to the pump. I doubt the dealer is willing to do anything without DTC present.

If you had dealt with this issue, please chime in. Thanks.

You may have a history DTC they could at least document, though they may not want to. Get it on paper if at all possible. Say you had a CEL a week ago but it went away but you're worried and could they please scan it and give you a printout? (They will say it's No Big Deal and not print something out-- press the issue.)

Keep the gas between 1/4 and 3/4 full, that is when the EVAP system makes up its mind the fastest.

Just wanted to put a closure on this issue, and share some info as well. The check-engine light was off after a few days with P2405, but when I checked after the check-engine was off, before the appointment with dealer, the code P2405 was still in there. So I brought the car in with the Mazda warranty brochure in hand. Service writer insisted they had to contact Mazda, and made me sign that if code is not EVAP related, I'd have to pay $120 for diagnosis. I went with that with full confident. They came back to me after ah hour saying it is the leak detection pump, and it is warranty. But they also found that I am due to oil change, and the passenger side control arm is a little loose. I knew what they are trying to do, instead of arguing with them, I simply told them just to do the warranty work for the day, and will worry about the arm later. They grudgingly obliged and the work from start to finish took the whole morning.

Mazda3, at least from 2007 onward have PZEV engines in States that adopt California emission laws, the emission system is warranted for 15 years or 150,000 miles whichever comes first. It covers diagnosis, parts and labor. In the Mazda brochure, the warranty language is very clear. It includes all the emission related parts, including purge solenoid, and gas caps. For other states that use Federal emission laws, the warranty is 7 years or 70,000 miles.

Happy motoring.

Good on you. Hate to imagine the masses not knowing about this warranty benefit. Hopefully Mazda will crunch the numbers and demand better from their suppliers.
