My mazda3 2.3litre 5spd auto uses the Motorcraft 5w-20 semi synthetic I get at walmart. I had good results in the past. I wanted to go longer but my TBN seemed to drop a lot in just 1575 miles. It went from 4.2 to 1.4. I've been doing lots of city driving since the last report. Does anyone think I can take this oil to 7500 miles??
Seems like everything else is ok. No make up oil added and I use purolator cartridge filter.

thanks

Conocophillips semi-synthetic oils are mostly group II base stock, with a splash of group III. Most other SM rated dino oils use group II+ base stock. The Motorcraft and its clones are still good oil. Your car seems to like it. I would just stick to 5K/6 month OCI's.

Wow, looks really good! I would stick with that oil with those numbers. Personally, I would keep the OCI at 5k, because I like a large saftey cushion. If you do want to extend your OCI take it slow, like to 6k as recomeneded above.

Well, your image link is dead at the moment. I get some error page that puts a 2$ in there where your "4" is after farm and says something about yahoo being your something or other. I used the quote function to actually view the URL of the image.

I can't see it. If I quote you, I can see the URL ..which is

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3213/2723625682_aa092bb6b3_o.jpg

when I paste that into the address bar ..I get this.

For some reason it does some 2$ thing where your 4 is.

I can't imagine it being something with FireFox.

Edit: But it must be something with my browser. A yahoo search using http://farm4.static.flickr.com shows plenty of hits ..and no images can be viewed. Copying link location and applying it ..yields the same ERROR as above.

Nope ..and I even turned off AdBlock+ just in case it was in there somewhere. Strange indeed.

The link takes me to some page ..but the image is one of those postage stamps that sometimes appears when the linked image isn't available

Well, I can see it with IE ..so it's a FF issue (but I can't imagine what).

Aside from TBN being a tad low, there's nothing there to complain about. Good showing.

I would not push that oil any further unless a TAN is done to make sure that it isn't higher than your TBN...once they cross bad things happen quickly. IMO you are near the cliff don't push it. Wear looked very good and I think you have a good combo here for this length of an OCI.
