Mazda F22 Coolant

I am due to change the coolant in my 2018 Mazda3, I went to the dealer to get few jugs or coolant, but the parts guy showed up with Zerex Asian Blue coolant. I asked for the oem stuff, and he says that the Zerex stuff is all they use.

The OEM is 55/45% diluted ratio compared to the Zerex 50/50%. Although, both meet ASTM D3306.

I assume it should be totally fine with Zerex, but I dont want to risk anything with the advice from the dealership to save a few bucks. Apparently, they don't even have OEM stuff in stock.

Any of you have used Zerex blue without problem?

I used Zerex blue in my Honda engine for well over 5 years without any complaints. After this period, the coolant tested at .24 volts on my meter which meant that it still had some useful life left. Zerex/Valvoline is giving a conservative estimate with their drain interval guarantee, in my opinion.

Check chemistry requirements in owners manual, compare with Zerex. I see OEM coolant has 3deg lower freezing temps, it may not be an issue where you are.

I'm in Canada, it can go as low as -35 Celsius on a very cold day, but I doubt the Zerex stuff would not be adequate.

From everything I’ve read the blue and green Asian coolants/antifreeze are the same. My 2018 Mazda has green so I went with the green Peak.

I never actually checked the real color in the overflow tank, it looked blue ish, but maybe its green LOL. Have you used this Peak stuff a lot without problems?

Been using Zerex Asian blue and Zerex Asian red for many years with no issues changing it every 5 years. It is good coolant from my experience .

Zerex Asian (regardless of color) is the same as Mazda FL22, which is also Motorcraft Specialty Green. It’s a PHOAT coolant. I always found it odd that Mazda wanted a 55/45 ratio. But the 50/50 mix will be fine.

If you buy the Zerex in pink, it results in a nice brown color when you mix it with the factory green!

I have only done one drain and fill with it. No issues.

They used to have pink too (and red?). They’re all the same. The different color is just to match what was already in the system.

Very! I was so shocked, I saw him coming with jugs of Zerex, in my mind I was like, what the hell... but I can still return it, I have my receipt.

This Peak is F22. I used it to flush/ fill my 2008 Miata. No problems.

Four years ago I did the first drain and fill on our Mazda (then, 9 years old) using FL22 from the dealer.

Last year I repeated with Zerex Asian Green.

Times will tell.

EDIT: Regarding pink and red, I would suspect that to be geared towards Toyota - OAT with Sebecate.

I did my 2016 Mazda with the green last fall. We had temps down to 0ºF here this winter and all is well. I also did my Nissan with the blue and it's fine.
