And what do you have?

Well done! I'll bet you can do even better! Man, I'd love to try

I wonder if the difference is the wheels? I have the basic wheels, 16" alloy. What are yours? Something seems different because you'd be getting a whole lot better than that in my car. Only mods I have made are the ecopia tires, Redline MTL, run 91+ octane and I use startron in the fuel. I can't see any of those making such a big difference.

I have the 16"'s too. I want to put the 17 or 18"'s on it (whatever the GT comes with). It looks a lot better with the larger wheels.

I have never seen an "s" with anything but 17"+. How did you get 16"s on yours? The mazda website says all "s" models come with 18" wheels.

When I was shopping for a 2015 Mazda3 a few months ago, I was told the "S" models were the 2.5 liter engines, and the "i" models were 2.0 liters. Salesperson said the "S" models came with 18" wheels on the GT and 16" on the Touring. The "i" models were only available with 16" wheels.

Maybe I was misinformed by the salesperson, or maybe it varies from region to region...?

The mazda website agrees with you.

Mine are the 16's and I have the 2.0l because it's the SV, not SPORT. My wife has the GT with the larger wheel and 2.5L.

So I just drove 10 miles in 6th gear at 65 mph and hit 42.3 mpg. Record lol. I never drive that slow.

Slow down even more and you'll get much higher. I once drove 100 miles at 55 mph among rolling hills and recorded over 50 mpg in my Corolla. It was a beautiful day...I had the windows half down, no A/C on, etc.

I think it goes to show that it's difficult-to-impossible to make any meaningful comparison of fuel economy among different people who live in different areas, different climates, different geography, different traffic levels, etc.

If you drove my Corolla where you live up there, you'd have probably been lucky to see consistent 30 mpg tanks. If I drove your Mazda down here, I'd probably see most tanks around 40 mpg.
