It's at least 10 years old and has been rock-solid reliable, until today when I found the ice bin nearly empty. The water flow is fine through the dispenser and the filter is maybe a month old, so supply isn't a problem. The auger and everything else seem to be working normally, the tray simply doesn't refill. I pulled out the bin and felt up inside, there was a single row of cubes upside down on top of the tray which I removed hoping that was the problem, but it didn't make any difference and the tray was empty. The bail that detects the ice level moves freely and nothing appears to be jammed up in any way, no rogue cubes stuck where they don't belong.
I cut the power for a few minutes hoping a "reboot" would help, still nothing. For whatever reason the valve to refill the tray with water just isn't activating, everything else operates normally.
I'm usually pretty handy with home repair but icemakers are a bit out of my wheelhouse. I'd hate to spend a fortune on a service call for such an old unit but I also want to avoid firing the parts cannon trying to fix it myself, and searching the internet didn't tell me anything I didn't already try. If anyone here has any advice on where to begin it would be highly appreciated.

There's a good chance the waterline just inside the freezer by the ice maker is frozen. Let the freezer side warm up a bit and see if that helps.

My Samsung has a "test" button you can press located on the underside of the box/chute where the ice comes out. This can tell you what's going on based on what happens. Does your Maytag have that button?

Nope, already looked for one. I guess that's not a Maytag thing. Too bad, seems pretty useful.

I did remove the little panel on top of the cabinet that accesses the water line for the icemaker, the well was full of water. It might be condensation because I live in a humid environment and the water was quite cold.
Maybe if I warm that area up with a blow dryer it will thaw any potential ice blockage, although I kind of doubt that because I never hear the fill valve try to cycle.

There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to diagnose Whirlpool (owns Maytag) icemakers. Behind the cover on the end of the icemaker are test points that you jumper to test for power, and activate a cycle. Do a search for "whirlpool ice maker test points". Replacement is usually easy, 3 screws and a harness connector. No problem getting parts (I've done 3 recently) I recommend a Whirlpool OEM replacement part. And a word of caution the jumper test points are 120 volts so use an insulated jumper wire.

I’ve already had to replace the ice maker on my 2.5 year old Frigidaire. They’re normally quite simple. Look up your p/n and watch a few YouTube videos. Ice makers usually fit a variety of models and I had no issues getting an oem replacement from Amazon.
