Dang, I changed my oil Today and I added 2 quarts of Valvoline Conventional and 2 quarts of valvoline Synthetic Maxlife. When I was done I threw away the bottles and noticed that the Maxlife Synthetic is not API Certified!! Is my Hyundai Engine ok?

You are FINE!!!

Just because an oil isn't API certified doesn't mean that it is junk, especially if it is from a reputable corporation such as Valvoline.

My bottles of Maxlife Syn Have the Sl approval donut but not the islac energy conserving starburst. I am running mine in a newer under warranty(2004) vehicle and I am not sweating it.
The Maxlife syn is in my opinion the best additized oil that Valvoline markets.

FYI Maxlife Synthetic is on sale in the NY metro area for $2.99 a qt. at RS Strauss. The Maxlife D/M A/T fluid is $1.99. This sale expires on 10/29.

MR REDNECK fear not,MAXLIFE SYNTHETIC will give you great engine protection, it just doesent meet the fuel saving requirements of ILSAC-GF-4.

Hey Pablo, I got it, liked it, don't have any problem with it at all!!!

MaxLifeSyn does not have the Energy Startburst just like GC 0-30.

They are API SL.

I have MaxLifeSyn in my '95 K1500 w/ 168k miles, and my '96 CrownVic w/ 146k miles.

Great stuff when on sale!

Island Vic It has the donut.

This is the Starburst

This is the API Donut, On this oil and other API Oils such as GC it will simply not have "Energy Conserving" at the bottom of the Donut.

Doesn't matter, many good oils don't have one the other or niether.

Here is a good link on the subject. API

This is a good ACEA A3 rated oil for the price... I scored some (6 quarts) for $1 per quart at the Pottstown Wal-Mart earlier this summer. It was on the clearance shelf (along with some MC 5W-20 for a buck, but I digress). Seems like you can get it on sale elsewhere...

aahh yes, I was thinking that "Energy Conserving" had it's own burst symbol also.

Bryan, how do you like the "cold weather" down here?

IslandVic,

I am at work in Prudhoe Bay Ak right now. I laugh at my wife when she says it's "cold". I think the 40's is beutifull shorts and T-shirt weather. You could say it's relative to a cold day in ****.

We are going up to VA for the Winter, maybe longer. My wife predicting extreme cold weather

has gone and bought a bunch of winter clothing...
I am wighing the posswibility of leaving the 6200 mile old fill of ML Syn in the outlander (1500 miles of interstate should be cake)and running it up to ~ 8k before I drain and sample it.

8k miles on a newer Mitsu should be no problem IMO bryan.

I'm about to reach 6k miles on my '96 CrownVic on the ML Syn, and it could go to past that since I have to add a quart every 1200 miles. I'm thinking 7500 mile OCI for it.

Have fun in VA!

Yeah, I scored too, at Wally World. This was one of the very few 5W-30s that I can find that is ACEA A3 approved. Impressive.

I scored at RS Strauss, 11q of MLS @2.99/q. Two were 10w-30, probally use them for topping. I tried and liked the 10w-30 WalMart ST Synth HM that has the A3 rating, seeing that MLS was a bit pricier. On sale, at the same price as ST Synth HM, I could not resist even though I don't have an application for it! Seems like a good winter oil.
