Just completed some servicing on my sisters 02 Yukon Denali while on a vacation here in Cincinnati. After flushing the transmission and power steering, changing passenger window motor/regulator and both belts along with a broken CD changer, I decided to service the transfer case.
Upon inspection I found it to be a NV case that requires Dex IIE or III, and not the AutoTrak II "blue" fluid. I only had a few quarts of RL D6 on hand and not wanting to experiment with a thin fluid in this expensive case, I opted for Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc. Once I pulled the plug I could tell this fluid was most likely factory fill. Very black and nasty as I expected. Truck is at 66K. Topped it off with just over two quarts. After buttoning it back up and driving it a few miles down the road, it really seemed to be much more smooth than before. The "clunk" which is common in these rigs, is now pretty much non existent! I'm impressed. Very happy with the Maxlife ATF. Will have to re-evaluate upon next my visit.
