I changed my oil today and also dumped the transmission fluid (the 6F50 has a drain plug). The 5 or so quarts that drained out was pretty nasty looking. This fluid was supposedly changed at the dealer about 50,000 miles ago. Put in MaxLife ATF and the slight shudder I was starting to experience at low rpm partial TC lockup in 5th and 6th gear is now gone.

Good stuff but I'd recommend do another two drain/fills fairly soon to keep it fresh (you're probably running about 50% new fluid). Can also do one with every engine oil change for the near future.

I plan to do another drain/refill later this week and then another at the next oil change and then once a year thereafter.

Good choice, my 2000 Century is loving it.
After 3 drains and fills you don't need to change ATF every year, every 2-3 years will be enough.

Probably true, but since a drain/fill is only 50%-ish I find it easier to do one with every-other engine oil change rather than a flush over a longer period. You still won't know if you're 'keep up' unless you do analysis though.

Inconclusive. Because the fluid was neglected, you dont know if using the factory spec ATF would produce the same result. The shudder was caused by neglected fluid. You did a partial drain and fill. Went away. At 50k interval (your not sure about that, could have been 100k) any fluid, any kind would reduce shudder.
But yeah, Maxlife is a good ATF.

I'm sure it would have. And I don't believe the fluid was neglected; it was just time for a change. The fluid was not burnt or overly viscous. It was just dark, but you could still detect a faint pinkishness on a white rag.

I would wait a little while for further drain and fills. maybe get into a permanent yearly schedule which I do. The fresh Maxlife will do some cleaning, stirring up deposits. If you wait, let it "marinate" for a while, future drain and fills will be cleaner, last longer. Just an opinion on what I noticed being a high mileage drain and filler. Once a year forever and my fluid is always "almost" perfect. And its cheap, $25 a year insurance.
